Never sure if they had an escape plan when they took the $ with any of them or if they just didn't like the environment they entered after selling the company.
I won't really care about bioware anymore, as far as I'm concerned, Mass Effect ends with 3, Dragon Age ends with Origins and it's dlc, Bioware ends here.
The last remnants of Bioware have been raped and cannibalized. With my personal taste, I'm pretty sure whatever new IP they come up with will be another shooter, and won't interest me.
I bid the adieu Bioware.
Now let's see where CDprojeckt goes from here. They're the next hottest thing.
They made a couple underwhelming games, a bad ending and suddenly everyone hates them. Sigh.
So yeah, I'm excited for the DLC, another ME game, another DA game (that's hopefully good this time) and another IP (assuming it's not a COD-clone RPG or something dumb like that).
It will be a new IP made not to just grab the Call of Duty audience, but also the Skyrim, Angry Birds, Farmville, etc. audience.
Love,
Ramm.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure working with EA will do that to a person...
"something exciting, different and frankly downright scary -- investing in and mentoring new entrepreneurs, and more specifically, the field of social/impact investing."
I know I'm probably twisting the context, but this sounds kinda cynical to me.. I mean, sure, mentoring new entrepreneurs is a crap shoot, but geez. He sounds like he's writing it (and people) off before he's even started.
" The main project I will be working on is a web-based interview show called The Beer Diaries where I interview notable brewers and showcase their beers. If things go well, I'll work on other beer-related shows, apps and projects."
This sounds.. interesting.. I mean I'd watch it, loving both beer and food.. But it sounds incredibly niche.
"Say what you will about the company's more recent games, but "the Doctors" contributed to videogames in a very meaningful way."
They did, there's no denying that, but the direction they've allowed the company to take in recent years isn't exactly the brightest mark on their tenure there. And I got on to fear what will happen to BiowWare without them.
All that said.. Any one else thinking this is on the heels of a bunch of other things? I mean, SWTOR didn't go as well as they'd imagine, and both DA2 and ME3 got huge amounts of flak... It sounds to me that they've thrown up their hands just given up completely, instead of deciding to simply do other things with their lives.
"and a whole new Mass Effect-univese game."
I'm both intrigued and a little sickened..
Huge drop in quality with DA2 and ME3. Many lazy things about those games. DA: O and the first ME were probably their most ambitious this gen.
Can't say I didn't see this happening, the company's been getting progressively worse over the last 5 years.
Bioware needs some new ideas...I hope their new IP is good.
Oh well. Good luck to the doctors and to BioWare!
Ha! Made me laugh. Thank you, for that laugh. Very true though.
As for this sort of news? I would have cared before the merger with ElectronicArts, but now? Ha-ha! Fuck no. The only thing this represents is that like Zynga, Bioware is going south and quickly. Not even staying to see the shit hit the fan with DragonShit: Inquisition? Wow.. Talk about total pussies. By all means defend them all you want. You know they left for other reasons then what they put out for the public to see.
Like someone already said they already sold the development team, and company to ElectronicArts, made money, allowed said company to become shit and decided to bail before it got really ugly. Seriously MassErection3 the orgy for earth was so bad I heard BattleStar fans laughing at MassEffect fans. You know what they said? Atleast it was a better ending then MassEffect3. Sad day in hell, but then again it's Bioware. Which does not mean quality anymore. More like cheap hooker sell out.
Pfft.. Whatever. I honestly do not care about those two or Bioware anymore. I just find it funny that they leave now before any new titles are even completed. Not all of the blame is on EA though. A large portion is on those two right there. The sell outs.
I'm also a little surprised at all the anger directed at Zeschuk and Muzyka, calling them deserters. May be it's just a lack of experience with the corporate world, but when you build something that doesn't turn out how you want you don't wallow in misery and eat shit for the 'common good', particularly if you lack the power to change it. You make a graceful departure and give the reins to someone that can lead the project with the proper conviction.
Sums up the last three years of Bioware releases pretty well.
That is a great of way saying, EA killed my baby.
It'll have a million subs, and be a WOW killer!
Amtalx is one of the few level-headed commenters in here, it's sad.
