BioWare announces the first SWTOR Guild Summit photo

BioWare has invited Star Wars: The Old Republic guild leaders from around the world to the first SWTOR Guild Summit in Austin, Texas. While invites have already been sent out, there is still some space for other guilds to apply here. Participants can attend Q&A sessions with the developers as well as roundtable feedback discussions. They will also get sneaky look at some new content, damn them. BioWare wants to get direct feedback from players as well and give players the opportunity to hear about some of the reasons behind certain design choices.

I imagine that the feedback from this type of event will be more articulate than the lunatic ravings of some of the more rabid members of the game's community, although I do hope that there are some challenging questions. It would be superb if the event ends with Imperial guild leaders squaring off against their Republic counterparts, maybe in a game of Huttball? Surely BioWare could recreate it for such an occasion.

I remember a cool feature in anarchy Online that kept players rather busy. There were doors scattered throughout town, that were instance entrances. The target of the mission was random from a list. The instance layout was picked from a template of possible layouts. The door entrance was random, one of many doors in town or the next town over. On top of this was a reward tree, all given out by a random mission generator machine.

It seems like SWTOR's instances are perfect for this. You can have level 50 content, even back on a level 10 planet. They sort of do this now, but not randomized repeating encounters. I know it might be hard to do with full voiceovers, but surely there is a way. They already recycle player character responses. It'll keep people busy for a good while.

"BioWare wants to get direct feedback from players as well and give players the opportunity to hear about some of the reasons behind certain design choices."

Then hold a real convention and take peoples money, and get more feedback. Or just send a comprehensive survey to all the players, with a video explaining why certain changes and things are implemented, with promise of a reward for completing the survey. Or even better, hold a web conference with a chat room that only subscribers can enter, with a live feed from the devs.

The data from any of those thing would be no different then making guild invites to a fireside chat because I bet with a certain level of reasonable doubt that these guilds are home to the same bunch of cretins that tend to stalk the games forums bitching and complaining endlessly about every possible thing, then have the werewolf nards to demand their money back. Sure, BioWare has to sift through a lot of BS to get anything out of taking the forums to heart, but honestly these are the same exact people they're dealing with, and I don't think being unmasked is going to make those people and less dickish or entitled.

Either way, this game is no where near the level that a game like EVE is on, nor is the majority of its fanbase. I don't think they're going to get much out of this at all since pretty much every TOR player I've ever talked to, no matter how many other MMO's they claim to have played in the past that were "Not just WoW", all have zero clue about how the business and politics of MMO's work in the slightest.

Hell, I haven't had a half way intelligent conversation with any player in this game yet, because everyone's either not speaking at all because the majority of the game isn't asking them to, or they're too busy thinking out loud in general about (true story) whether you should be using chloroform or gasoline to knock out that Twi'lek chick who gives you your payments when you work for Nem'ro the Hutt as a Bounty Hunter.

Soooo...... what was your point again? Because I'm sure sending out a survey to a couple hundred thousand people, with the expectation that they will all fill it out with reasonable and logical information is purely in the realm of capable and logical players... like the ones you so expertly claim to dominate the guilds attending this. or the rest of the cretins and their dickish entitlement.

What's wrong, didn't get invited?

It's a nice game. I'm playing all day long!!! I know that it's not a good thing but i like it very much. Also i have a blog where i learn other people how to play it. Also i had the chance to play the game before the release as i was a QA member of EA. So you can trust my advice, i literally worked on this game.
