BioShock team getting ambitious photo

It's an all too common story in the world of gaming. A great development team creates an amazing game and a franchise is born and moved over to a different development team, which often results in a whole lot less amazement. Of course, from what we've seen of BioShock 2 that might not be the end result, but it is certainly how the story begins as it isn't Ken Levine and the rest of his team that are working on the sequel. No, Levine and his cohorts are moving on to bigger and far more "ambitious" things he told Gamasutra.

What is this game? No idea, but according to Levine it is going to be even more groundbreaking than BioShock, which, if you've paid any attention, broke enough ground to be one the most discussed games ever and got a perfect ten from the likes of us. "And when we thought about the shipping date of the project... We needed a certain kind of length for the title, because we had a scope and ambition in mind which is more ambitious than anything we've ever done," he said while discussing the not-so-soon to be released mystery game, "Even more, substantially more ambitious than BioShock. And we knew that was not going to happen overnight."

So the game will be amazing, we'll be waiting for it for the next bajillion years and all this story has done is make us wish it was already the day that this game is coming out... and worry a bit about BioShock 2. I'm also pretty sure there is a Shakespearean quote in here. Something about Caesar and ambition. That didn't work out so well for him, but I think that was within an entirely different context.

oooh, interesting, i like bioshock, and its a frachise that can be so much more then only that series...... why not do a space one, like System shock.... like a remake and homage to the game that inspired bioshock. or something else
... and the text is suposed to say," Ambition, it makes you squint your eyes and grow a beard"

Yeah, "groundbreaking" is not the proper term for Bioshock, which was System Shock 2 crossed with Undying and Atlas Shrugged. "Ground-repaved," maybe.

You know what else was ambitious? Shenmue. So forgive me for acting wary when a dev claims to be making something "more ambitious than anything we've ever done."

I didn't like BioShock. I blame the "HOLY MCHELL BEST SHOOTER GAME SINCE HALF LIFE" hype. It had three bits that stood out to me. Beginning, Cohen's Nutcracker Waltz and Ryans Office.

If they could make an entire game of just things like that, It'd be awesome.

BioShock was a fantastic game, no doubt, but I really don't think it should've been GOTY '07...

Hell, I thought even The Darkness and Metroid Prime 3 were better overall.

I loved the beginning of Bioshock, then I thought it went down-hill :( I don't think I can take any more hyping and 'omg this game is so amazing' from other people when that's not how I feel.

Brutus thought Caesar was ambitious, so Brutus killed Caesar. Does this mean someone is going to try to kill Ken Levine? OOOHH NOOOOO

Groundbreaking? No, it was just very different from your typical story driven FPS, and a very good one.

I love it, but it didn't do anything special for me in terms of anything groundbreaking or new.

Yep, BioShock is amazing, overrated, but still amazing.
I think that after the critics played 156136 FPS with the same weapons and shitty story, anything more decent would blow their minds.
For now i'm just waiting some more groundbreaking.

Really didn't get what's supposed to be so great about Bioshock. Just another decent shooter for me. They tagged on some superpowers, declared that the fact that you don't get all the awesome weapons right at the beginnig is a RPG-element and gave it a half-decent story with one plotwist. And that plottwist killed of the only interesting character in the whole game. Really great job. After Ryan was dead the game became absolutely boring.

Yeah I remember buying BioShock and being kind of disappointed. I mean, it's a good game and it's exceptionally well made, but the hype made it out to be something really special.

I remember when my friend got to the big twist, which I never bothered to get to, and laughing at how corny and amateurish the dialogue and voice acting was.

I can't say the entire game was like that because I only watched the last few hours and played the first few, but seeing the "Atlas is Fontaine" scene really convinced me to stay away from the game for good.

Shame really. I missed out on what was probably a pretty great game overall.

What the fuck man? When I first heard of Bioshock I thought it was going to be a spiritual successor of System Shock. Even the early art drawing and story reflected that. But then the story and gameplay turned into something mundane, like people rioting in a broken down city. I WANT SYSTEM SHOCK 3!
