BioShock's Levine discusses downloadable content photo

Downloadable content is a hot commodity, allowing developers to squeeze even more money from customers in exchange for horse armor or a few songs on Guitar Hero. Needless to say, all the top games have caught DLC fever, including BioShock.

Despite the fact that its linear experience and lack of multiplayer doesn't outwardly express a need for additional content, 2K's Ken Levine is keen on adding to the currently low replayability of the game thanks to the power of the Internet:

"Diablo II, to me, was a great model for an expansion, because it enhanced the original game, but also extended the game, too. I'm not a really big fan of expanding things just by linearly adding to the experience, adding a new campaign, as much as I am of enhancing the original experience and adding replayability to that experience. I think that certainly BioShock's combat experience is great, but it could be broader. I'm a little more confused as far as how to expand the narrative experience."

As much as I'd love some new levels in BioShock, I agree it really wouldn't work since the game flows from beginning to end perfectly enough. It will be interesting to see exactly what 2K Games adds to make replay a compelling prospect. Levine states that a lot of plasmids were cut from the final release, and there were rumors of 'Plasmid Packs' floating around if memory serves me correctly. Are plasmids enough to make you want to play through the game once more?

Personally, as much as I enjoyed BioShock, I feel it's going to take a lot to make me want to play through it more than maybe twice.

[Thanks Justin]

I'd love to see something more then a Plasmid Pack, but I'd still settle for that.

I wouldn't pay for a Plasmid Pack.

I still haven't finished Bioshock. =(

End-game syndrome? I think so.

I am almost at the end of the game, but I don't think a plasmid pack alone would encourage people to play through it again.

Re-phrased to not ruin it for VWGTI

The new DLC:

"Wait! I'm not evil... she is!"
"Yes, yes I am! Go get him girls!"

Im gonna stick to my guns on this one.

If they try to make us pay for plasmids that were originally in the game but were cut to hurry the release I will refuse to pay for them.

However I would like to see maybe increased AI, maybe a harder setting that disables the automatic rezing. Stuff like that would make me happy, maybe make the bosses a little more like bosses instead of them feeling like every other enemy in the game.

If a Plasmid pack would give you a reason not to use Electroshock-wrench anymore, that would be pretty awesome.

Plasmids were worthless, I only used electroshock to take out turrets before I hacked 'em.

There's enough ammo laying around Rapture to keep you stocked up.

I don't know, I'm playing through for the second time right meow, and as much as I'm enjoying it, I don't think a third playthrough, even with more "plasma packs" is gonna be worth it.

Bioshock is a great game. It's challenging and fun. I can't really play through it again without some new stuff. That doesn't take away from the fact that it's an amazing game though.

Can't see how any new content would make me wanna play it thru again. Already finished it on both endings and traded it away. A shame about the lack of replay value, such a pretty game.

New plasmids would change the replayability for me, and make me want to go through the game again.

I'd love to play BS again with a tweaked difficulty system, a cost for the vitachambers, More of the Big Daddies detailed in the original designs (wtf was up with that super puncho version with the big mallet fists?) and some better endings.

also cocks.

Give me free or affordable DLC with new achievements and I might be tempted to play through a 3rd time. Might.

Considering I beat the game using electro shock 90% of the time, fire 9% of the time, and messed around with telekinesis for the first 5 minutes I had it.... hell no I wouldn't buy a plasmid pack.
