BioShock PS3 DLC pricing and release dates announced photo

Finally, I can look forward to a point in the near future where I can make a decision on whether the added Challenge Rooms in the BioShock PS3 version are an awesome addition or a shameless tactic to try to get people to buy the game twice. 2K has announced that the DLC containing these new rooms will be available come November 20th and will retail for $9.99 (this gets you three rooms).

The rooms are titled A Shocking Turn of Events, where the Little Sister is trapped on the Ferris Wheel, The I in Team, where you must defeat a Big Daddy with extremely limited resources, and Worlds of Hurt, a balls-out nightmare where you wade through room after room of Big Daddies, Splicers and more in order to save a Little Sister.

I'm going to download this DLC, because I'm hopelessly addicted to all things BioShock, but even I can step out of that long enough to objective and admit that ten bucks is a lot to spend on DLC. I imagine some people will have a negative reaction to the price, despite the additional content. What's your take -- should this content simply have been included on the PS3 disc, or is it worth the download price?

2K Games Announces Pricing and Release Date for BioShock® PLAYSTATION®3 System Add-On Game Content

Exclusive Add-On Game Content available November 20 worldwide on PlayStation®Network

New York, NY – November 3, 2008 – 2K Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), announced today that the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system exclusive Add-On Game Content for BioShock® will be available for download worldwide on November 20 from the PlayStation®Network. Consisting of three unique Challenge Rooms that take place outside of the main storyline, the BioShock Add-On Game Content will be available for $9.99 in North America. BioShock for the PLAYSTATION 3 system was recently released to critical acclaim from critics across the industry, earning perfect scores from PlayStation: The Official Magazine and GamePro Magazine, as well as the Editor’s Choice Award from IGN.com.

Each of the three Challenge Room environments was designed specifically for the PLAYSTATION 3 system release and feature new locations, objectives and artwork not seen anywhere else in the game. Additionally, each of the new Challenge Rooms offers new Trophies that can be earned through smart thinking and resourceful playing.

The included rooms are:

A Shocking Turn of Events – A Little Sister is trapped atop a Ferris wheel in an undisclosed location in Rapture. Using only the tools and environment around them, players must use their wits to create electricity to power the Ferris wheel and bring the Little Sister to safety.

The I in Team – Using limited resources, and an even more limited arsenal, players must negotiate traps and find a way to defeat a Big Daddy using their wits instead of raw firepower.

Worlds of Hurt – Step up and take on the most grueling challenge offered in the world of Rapture. Players must battle through eight rooms of Big Daddies, Splicers and the worst that Rapture has to offer. Accumulate Adam, build an arsenal of Plasmids, Tonics and Weaponry, and fight through to rescue the Little Sister.

Developed by 2K Boston, 2K Australia, 2K Marin and Digital Extremes, BioShock for the PLAYSTATION 3 system contains all-new content that augments and extends the experience in exciting ways. BioShock for PLAYSTATION 3 system contains new features such as the inclusion of the Survivor difficulty mode, Trophy support and the addition of all-new Add-On Game Content that will be available for download on November 20. A free demo that allows gamers to play through the first portion of BioShock is currently available for download from the PlayStation Network.

BioShock is a narrative-driven action experience that allows players to do the impossible as they journey through an amazing, immersive and terrifying world. Caught between powerful forces and hunted down by genetically mutated citizens, the player will come to grips with the mysterious and fascinating world of Rapture, a distinct Art Deco underwater utopia gone mad. BioShock not only challenges players’ capacity to adapt and survive, but brings to question their values and relationships with the inhabitants of Rapture. With smart and adaptive AI, no encounter ever plays out the same way twice, while numerous customization options provide gamers with an experience that adapts to their playing style.

BioShock for the PLAYSTATION 3 system is available now worldwide and is rated M for Mature by the ESRB. Available now on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Games for Windows®, BioShock was the recipient of more than 50 Game of the Year awards from prestigious outlets such as the Associated Press and Game Informer Magazine.

I think that this close to release it's not fair hanging onto it for more cash, but whoever said making money was fair?

I'd be surprised if the DLC is really worth it.

It should be free. I mean Bioshock is a great game, but if somebody has both systems and never bought the game they'd go for the 360 version, mainly due to the price. By adding this DLC for free that will give the PS3 the upper hand.

Seriously people stop buying DLC. It encourages developers to leave a game unfinished then charge you to fill in the blanks.

You wouldn't pay extra to unlock the special features on a DVD would you?

In before "If you don't want it, then don't buy it", I don't understand why gamers are the only people who have no problem with this.

I've never played Bioshock, but $10 for three rooms? These rooms better be equivalent to a damn entire level of the normal game. I doubt it'll be worth it. Dunno why amers let the gaming companies rape your wallets, and it'll just get worse and worse as you continue to support it.

just finished bioshock [ps3] and feel that, that was enough. the story was great throughout and if i want to play more bioshock, then ill just play through the game again :)

why would i want to pay more money just to strut through room after room of aggressive AI, which offers me no story line or real reason to complete it other than a trophy?

im not dead against downloadable content though. i thought my add-on 'everybody's golf' course was well worth it :D

Wait, I thought this was supposed to be included in the PS3 version out of the box, thereby giving me a reason to have held out for the PS3 version.

Forget it.

@Bacon Burger: No, I believe they included some other stuff, like a "Survival" mode or something, but not this.

This content should have been included with the game. A new difficulty mode (survival) isnt enough to warrant 60 bucks for a 1-year old game that costs 30 on other platforms. So beasically, people will be paying 70 dollars for what should have been worth 50.

10 bucks? Hell no.I already paid 60 bucks f***ers! I'll happily pay a couple extra bucks for things like music packs on Guitar Hero and the such, but this is too much.
I agree with Zantetsuken.

Already bought, played and loved Bioshock for 360 no way am I paying $60 for Bioschock PS3 and $10 more for some downloadable content that should have been included in the first place to convince me to buy it again anyway. Poor move on 2k's part

I could live without this. Discount the price of this late-release version of the game, take a few bucks off the DLC price, and you've got yourself a fair deal.

For me, the draw of BioShock lies more with the story and atmosphere than the actual combat gameplay. This seems neat, but certainly not worth another ten dollars.

should be included. I'm a bad hater of DLC that comes out right after the game did meaning they could have simply added it to the main package if they weren't money hungry whores.

oh come on... some DLC isn't all that bad.

Guitar hero track packs are a good idea. if you dont like the tunes, dont buy it and visa-versa.

just as i was getting a bit fed up with everybody's golf, they introduced a new golf course. it freshened the game again and got me back into it. trying to sell us new costumes was a bit crap. but, just dont buy them!? simple.

I have to disagree with a lot of you and i will keep buying DLC that i feel is

1: worth the price
2: adds something worthwhile to the game

if we only buy the good stuff and ignore the bad.. they'll get the message soon enough. Just imagine your favorite game getting a bit boring, then being able to buy [at a small fee] a new bit of the game to keep it fresh.... good times!
