With Gore Verbinski stepping down as director for the sadly inevitable BioShock movie (though hanging on as producer), there's an opening for a new man to steer the project forward. Universal Studios wants that man to be Juan Carlos Fresnadillo. He's the chap who made 28 Weeks Later, as if our headline didn't give enough of a clue.
Fresnadillo is in talks right now over the project, but final approval will come from Take-Two, which has final approval on any directors. Of course, the film could do much worse than have Fresnadillo on board, so I think the game publisher should say yes unless it wants something like Michael Bay or, worse, Uwe Boll to jump on the script. Fresnadillo's producing partner, Enrique Lopez Lavigne, may also come on board as a producer.
The Infected from 28 Weeks Later kind of act like Splicers, being that they're both diseased freaks that rush headlong at people and don't make any sense why they try and speak. Should be an easy job for this particular director, really.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
The more I think about it the mo' I dig it. Optimism +1
It's videogame movie of course it will end bad.
My response to this is NO, NO, NO, NO, FUCKING NO.
Hey hollywood just because a game was good doesn't mean it needs a God damn movie.
If they had just had the balls to call it "Generic Zombie Movie With Stock Military Characters and Magical Child Who Will Not Mean Anything To You" instead of trying to tie it to Danny Boyle's excellent work, then I might have respected it. But, well, read the first sentence again.
I have nothing against the director--it was the script that I had a beef about.
they had their chance to make something special, with a highly talented director in Verbinski, and (as usual) they blew it. they obviously have ZERO respect for the source material.
It wasn't the most brainless of zombie films (ha ha), but it wasn't exactly what you'd call a "deep" film.
If he takes over, expect the BioShock film to be a fun, action film. Just don't expect anything else. Because if you do, you'll be disappointed.
Yeah this will most defiantly suck ass and probably still sell well in the cinemas.
it is now safe to say that this movie will officially be terrible, not that that wasn't a strong possibility before- it's just now it's a sure thing. fuck Fresnadillo.
