So, as you're all doubtlessly aware by now, thanks to the millions upon millions of community blogs on the subject, BioShock was released in demo form on Xbox Live last night. So great was the response from Xbox Live users that the demo was downloading as slowly as 1% every ten minutes for some people. My Live friends list was just full of people sitting in their dashboards, clearly awaiting their own chance to visit 2K's nightmarish rapture. Not only did the servers grind to a crawl, in some cases they halted completely. As some people on Evil Avatar complain and as our very own Colette can attest to, Live either shut down completely or locked users out of downloads in a few cases.
That's perhaps the most encouraging and pleasing thing I've seen about this game, as well. Here we have an original IP, one that's unique and fresh, and people are going nuts for it. You could literally feel the excitement here in the Destructoid community when the news about the demo broke and I loved every hype-filled second of it. This is very promising news for such a challenging and thought provoking title which should hopefully translate to big sales. The fact the demo is absolutely gorgeous won't hurt either.
But enough about the Xbox 360. Some of you want to know if a PC demo is coming and we can confirm that it is. In a brief announcement, 2K has stated; "For those of you who are looking for a BioShock demo on the PC, it is in the works and will be out later this month." Check out 2K's site tomorrow for more details on that front. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go clobber a little girl in anticipation of this highly anticipated masterpiece.
[Thanks to Action Bastard & TheGoldenDonut for the PC demo heads up]

The game is amazingly atmospheric and the controls are super tight. Not to even mention how gorgeous it looked and how there were no hiccups whatsoever. Something Stranglehold can't say. I can't wait to get home and play it again, but more importantly, can't wait for next week when the game drops.

Kind of a jerk-around for not releasing both at the same time before retail hits.

The PC demo can't come soon enough. Mostly because I need to know if my ancient, creaking Dell from the Days of Yore can even install the sucker before I plunk down for it...

Not all 360s do that. Mine used to do that, but then it RROD. When I got the 360 back, that feature stopped working for me. No idea about the rest though...

Why are people waiting on the dashboard? You can turn off your machine and background download now.
Turn off and download? Woa, someone got a Xbox with more features than mine!

The demo is the perfect length and exposes you to just enough of the full gameplay to get you hooked. It's also insanely beautiful in both the graphical polish and art direction. For anyone still downloading, sit tight and be ready for a treat.

All 360's have been able to do that since the Spring update (assuming it was downloaded, that is). Go to your system tab, and look under the auto shut-off label. Should be right there; background downloading is turned off by default.
