I’m expecting great things too, but I think I’ll temper my hype just in case people build it up to be the second coming. Expectations dictate disappointment.
So now my End-of-the-Year has two games, this and Borderlands 2, with ACIII threatening to be interesting. Another four-month wallet rape, coming in six months.
If there's anyone in the game industry I have absolutely faith in, it's Ken Levine. No worries whatsoever, this game is going to be amazing.
I was really excited about bioshock when it was announced, and all that hype that followed had swept me away with it. However, I was dissapointed that the game did not limit my playstyle in anyway (the player was given too much power imo). In fact, there was very little in terms of a learning curve. It's an excellently produced game however, story and art. What the hell do we even know about this game?
the first one was ok-ish. they made it up to be this game where you could play how ever you wanted with your powers etc. but it wasnt used very well. the atmosphere was amazing. but the gameplay was average fps crap at best. and the story was bland. not the Pulitzer prize people made it out to be.
Dammit, I was hoping for an earlier release to have something to hold me over until Borderlands 2 and Halo 4. END THE SUMMER GAMES FAMINE!

Haters gonna hate. Bioshock 1 was goddamn incredible beyond words, and Bioshock 2 was actually pretty decent.

if i want a good story with same old shit gameplay. id rather just read a book. im PLAYING a video game for the game play. if the game play isnt that good, why would i bother to keep playing to just see how the story goes?
but i must say i did like a few points in the game. the opening was one of the best ive seen. the plane crash etc. and the part where the room fills with water. that wasnt used nearly enough.

Why do you only play a game for the gameplay? Is your attention so limited that's the only thing you can enjoy? Do you only watch movies for story? Or more likely you see some for story, some for the acting, some for the special effects, some for a good scare/gross out, etc etc.

I'm not saying everything doesn't have to be well rounded, but everything has it's strengths and weaknesses. Did you see Avatar? Probably not for the story if you did, otherwise you may as well have just watched Pocahontas.
I dunno if that's the example I'd have used, Camel. A whole lot of people fucking despised Avatar. I get what you're saying though. If you aren't willing to overlook the odd flaw here and there, your library of games is gonna be about 2-3 per generation, tops. That's kinda unfortunate.

@ Stealth: I wouldn't be too worried. BS2 was made by 2K Marin without series creator Ken Levine's input (and against his better judgment). This is Levine's newest baby and I know I'm looking forward to it.

I just recently played the first Bioshock to prepare for Infinite. I liked the story a lot but the gameplay was getting a bit stale until I found out you could be a fucking god with telekinesis. Smashing someone with random objects and then using their corpse to bash the rest elevated the game to amazing for me. For the first half, it felt like a survival horror type game where I was cowering in the shadows and taking potshots, but the second half I was like Dr Manhattan in Vietnam.

Dunno why anyone thinks they would need to upgrade their computer for this. If it's running on consoles, it ain't gonna be more trouble to run that anything else you've played since... well... Bioshock. Anyway should do a dual review with normal console mode and master race PC 1999 mode.
@Wedge: That's a rather silly assumption. Unless you think we're all running our PC-games on 720p monitors and don't care for higher-resolution textures and additional eye-candy. Just the resolution-bump to true 1080p or higher alone requires a lot more than consoles can in most cases provide to keep frame rates at playable levels.

Bioshock 2 wasn't *bad* per say. But it should have been a $20 expansion pack or DLC. Charging full price when it re-used so many resources from the first game was ridiculous. It added very little new, it was just more levels of the same game.
