With that extra three million are you going to use it to hire extra employees or just task a portion of your existing team to build your multiplayer. If it's the former that's fair enough, but with the second you're losing resources that would normally be used for the single player thus hurting it.
I am so glad this game doesn't have multiplayer now.
" but with the second you're losing resources that would normally be used for the single player thus hurting it."
Well.. are you though? I mean, you're probably delaying the game in that case but honestly is that SO bad? Sure, I wanted Bioshock Infinite inside me the day I heard about it two years ago, but I realize games take time, and sometimes they even get delayed. Ultimately though... shit takes as long as it takes, ya know? And as mature, understanding gamers, it's up to us to recognize that.
I dunno man, it just seems to me like people think there's some finite amount of GAME hanging out there in the ether waiting to be plucked and injected into things they like, and if something is added that they don't want, they lament the reduced availability of GAME to go around. I don't think it works like that, though.
The example I'd offer you is Dead Space 2, which is most people's poster-child for "shoehorned" multiplayer. For sure, the multiplayer really wasn't interesting at all. Did it hurt single player though? Not that I can tell. It was still on a whole lot of short lists for GOTY last year and was an overall pretty damned excellent game. Would it have been EVEN BETTER if the multiplayer hadn't been there? Hell, who knows, right? I would argue not but I certainly couldn't call you wrong if you said it would, I suppose. The point is, it didn't noticeably hurt the single player aspect of that excellent freakin game in any way we can measure beyond the speculative.
2K games is doomed! Doooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooomed!
I'm ready for a true follow-up. BioShock is about the excitement of discovering a new world.
I'm kind of worried now, what with this and the huge delay, I really hope Bioshock Infinite lives up to the hype, this is one of my most anticipated games of my entire life
I mean I hate GFWL too, but wild horses could not keep me from playing Bioshock Infinite, GFWL or no GFWL
sometimes you just gotta DEAL WITH IT
This.
If DS3 and this seem to indicate something is that devs might finally be realizing what a waste of resources is tacked on multiplayer for the sake of it.
Does it occasionally suck, yeah. I have missed out on quite a few games I would have otherwise loved to play but I have chosen to vote with my wallet. Since I really can't say I've taken a stance against something while continuing to shovel money at it.
So in short yes as much as I would regret it I would be willing to pass up Bioshock Infinite over GFWL. It is one on a small list of my personal instant deal breakers.
Though it would of been interesting to see how a spec ops kinda view would be. Regardless I'm still going to be all over this game when it releases.
And then I was like, but this'll mean I won't have to hear every other cunt on the internet crying about multiplayer this and shoehorn that and 'WAAAAAAH SINGLE PLAYER IS DOOMED!!!!' for months on fucking end.
So it's a trade off I guess. No big, it was a mode nobody knew about anyway, so it's not like I anticipated it only to be disappointed.
That said.. I do also think it is a good thing that multiplayer was cancelled. More resources to make the game itself even that much better.
I am buying day 1.
but whatever, miss out on the potential GOTY of next year just because you're stubborn and don't want to deal with a little inconvenience
