BioShock gameplay footage from X06

9:55 AM on 03.03.2007   |   Kayka

Though most insider gaming journos already saw this demo during X06 last year in Barcelona, some of you, including me, have not. What do you get to see in this latest peek into BioShock? How about force powers, fire, and a wholla lotta shootin' going on.

Jeeze... I'm freaking out right now... that was the trippyest game video I have ever seen.

Those are the most realistic water effects I've ever seen. I can't believe how real this game seems.

Considering the low quality of this video.. these graphics would look sweeet in 720P or higher on my HD-TV..

They look as good as 'Gears' when you look at the detail and depth of graphical content..

While graphics do matter, what impresses me more is the design, attention to sound, style, atmosphere, etc.

And that blood mist reforming thing! Excellent!

What really tripped me out was the little sister's reaction to the player at the very end of the video. I'm very interested in knowing how the game treats you if you kill them, especially after seeing how frightened they are of you.

It looks really great but, doesn't look that fun to me...I don't know why, I was SUPER excited for this game but not so much anymore. Maybe cause I get the feeling that it seems rather pointless to even have guns in the game, doesn't seem like you can hurt or damage anythng with them.

@BlindsideDork
That one Big Daddy, a fully armored beast. There are plenty other, less armored creatures in the game, that take much more damage from guns.

Also, the flaming teddy bear was awesome.

That looks incredible on so many levels. I noticed that there are no crosshairs and there doesn't seem to be any way of aiming; or at least, they never used it. That would be strange. And I still don't get what the little girls + big daddies thing is about.

Also, it is apparent that the video was done with gamepad controls: Telekinesis miss at point blank range on a virtually non-moving target.
PC version of this for the win.

I would love to play this game. But the ability to terrify and/or murder a little girl(ya, I know she's a "little sister" and fairly evil)strikes me as wrong.

Fact is, I would love to play this game. Look at those graphics, and it doesn't seem mindless

Seriously though, please say I'm not the only one that finds this too distrubing.

@Deus:

The little girls take plasmids from the dead bodies, change it into a kind of food, and give it to the Big Daddies. In return, the Big Daddies protect the little girls.

I agree. The ending reaction of the "little sister" was a bit much for me. In another vid it was explained that they were harvesters with the "Big Daddy" acting as their protectors. Any form of child endangerment leaves me cold.

-> GuitarAtomik: It's not exactly "finally". Check out the game's spiritual successor, system shock 2(I love abandonware).

-> Farktoid: The purpose of the big daddy is protect the little sisters, so it's only natural they'd be scared of you after you kill their companion.

-> Deus: I'm pretty sure the video was just de-interfaced. This vid has one, but still doesn't seem to have any reticule.

-> plibt: I doubt any part of the game would absolutely require you to kill one of them. It leaves the decision to the player. Like the trailer said, it allows you to make mature moral decisions. It is a little disturbing, but I very much like disturbing. Check that vid I linked to above for more about that junk. Also, the little sisters aren't evil, they're just what they are.

The game still looks fucking awesome, nothing new there. The only question for me is whether to buy on PC(possibly neccessitating an upgrade) or 360(which'd mean I'd have to buy one). Decisions, decisions...

Ninja: I think that I'd disagree with you on that one. The little girl appeared to be drinking the dead scientists blood herself at the beginning of the movie.

The little girl freaks me out. I think I'd have no trouble dispatching her with that wrench shown at the beginning of the clip.

We've been able to kill kids in RPGs since Ultima 4. There might even be a good reason to do so in this one.
