Not because it looks bad or anything, but because it looks soeffing good that I want to personally hold Ken Levine at gunpoint and force him to release the game a month early. Honestly, who would it hurt?
But in regards to the actual video, my goodness -- did you see what he did with the fire and electrical plasmids? Or how he repositioned the trap? Or how he dealt with the Big Daddy? Incredible. Absolutely incredible.
After Irrational made the simple statement that BioShock was, at its core, just a shooter, I was admittedly a bit disappointed. Now, however, all that disappointment has been replaced with a mixture of rage and anticipation, the former coming about due to an abundance of the latter. While it certainly looks like "just" a shooter, the sheer variety with which the playtester gets through this room is nothing short of insane.
Yeah, what a cool feeling that must be. You've set up this digital world with all these objects and characters interacting in environments in (relatively)predetermined ways and then something just clicks like you didn't intend. It's either an odd coincidence that it worked out or it's a testament to their coding skills; setting up the "laws" of BioShock in such a way that the world just works.
If I was a mentally-disturbed gamer, who had the capacity to actually hold a game developer hostage, I would probably lean towards the poison kool-aid drinking cult type of behavior. Maybe we could set up a small community like Jonestown or hold ourselves up like the Branch Davidians in Waco. Except we could call it D-Town and then maybe Nex or Jim Sterling could walk around with military fatigues and large aviator sunglasses talking about the paradise that awaits us once we commit suicide.
Ok, this game wins.. the first game to give you a choice on killing kids! "would you like to harvest this little girl? or set her free?" OHHH man I can see the hell raising on that one LOL.
First off I have to say, I have the collector's edition of this game reserved and want it. Now that that is out of the way...
Besides perhaps electricity in the water (which is not something completely new, heck Cold Fear on the PS2/Xbox had water that could be electricfied if the level was right) there isn't too much extraordinaryly revolutionary or what not. its a game that looks fun and like other FPS' you can kill your opponents in multiple ways.
"But BlindsideDork, you can get enemies to attack each other." So, in Doom you could get the Pinkys and the Imps to fight each other until they die.
"But BlindsideDork, enemies will try to put out the fire if they are on it." Other games had the ability to put out fire with water and other games have had enemies that will go take health if they needed it. Simple line of coding...[if (fire); then (find closest body of water); or (chasing opponent in hopes of catching them on fire);]
Sorry to burst bubbles, it looks pretty and fun to play but still looks like a mix between a multiplayer DM arena mixed with a regular SP campaign. These are exaggerated sum description.
If the quaility of the first level is kept throughtout the entire game, then this game will be amazing. Lets just say I hate console FPSs and I actually enjoyed what little time I had with this one.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
DO WANT
Looks like it's worth checking out, to say the least.
Did he say that they 'found' that thing about repositioning the trap while testing? And that it worked, so they included it in the game?
I give it four hours before YouTube is flooded with videos people made of things that they 'found' in this game.
Also *drools*
Yeah, I'd definitely be that kind of crazy gamer.
Amazing.
Do want. Fucking now.
You know what sucks though? I'll only get a couple days with it before I gotta go to PAX.

But I am still anxious t play it.
You've got me there. Still, I haven't actually played Cold Fear, or much of Doom, so -- to me, anyway -- this game will feel totally new.
Opinion not valid without prior Levine-experience.
