BioShock could have five sequels photo

How many BioShock sequels would you like to own? When I posed this question to myself, I was surprised with the answer. I’ll consume as many BioShock titles as 2K are willing to throw at me. Even if the series loses its characteristic look and narrative grace.

I believe that is how most Star Wars movies fans think as well. I imagine they put on their crash helmets any time Lucas opens his mouth, but also welcome any new movie with open arms. The Star Wars vibe has always felt the same, even if the content is questionable.

Recently, 2K global president Christoph Hartmann told MCV that BioShock has the same franchise potential as Star Wars. He added that it is only possible if sequels stay true to the original game. From the interview:

For Bioshock, because it’s so story driven, the question obviously arises: how long can you do it without turning into The Matrix? The first Matrix was great, the second one was weird and the third one, you thought: ‘Who [making this] is on crack and who isn’t?’. “But, then again, look at Star Wars. It’s a fight between good and evil, just like Bioshock. If we spin it the right way and get the right twist of innovation, we can make six parts of it, as Star Wars did.
Hartmann then said, “But we have to be careful not to cash in.”

Somewhere there's a big daddy crying after knowing that he's gonna be sequel raped over and over and over and over.

Poor guy is gonna need years of therapy.

"careful not to cash in"

At least they seem to be aware of what they're doing...I think. That sounds like UGO saying how they intend to keep 1up's staff's personality.

I am looking forward to Bioshock 4: Look Who's Splicing Now, though.

too bad four of the Star Wars episodes sucked. F***ING EOWKS TAKE DOWN THE EMPIRE THE EMPIRE??? I personally don't like them even doing a second Bioshock. Can't we just agree that the first was good and it doesn't need a sequel

well I don't think Hartmann actually meant 5 sequels, maybe just mentioning that Bioshock has the potential for 5 installents STORY wise. If this does fly, I think most of those 5 new installments will be episodic or DLC in nature. Oh well, I'm still looking forward to Sea of Dreams.

WHAT?! Seriously Bioshock, should not have had a sequel to begin with. IF Bioshock 2 is good, then maybe the fact that a sequel to a game that seemed to have closed any possibility for a sequel off, was made may be forgiven. If there is a just and loving God he wouldnt allow more than one.

They couldn't even get through one game with a strong story how do they expect to get through 5!?!

I enjoyed many parts of Bioshock but really it doesn't have lasting power to me unless they really shore up some of the weaker areas of the game and add a little more depth to it. Most of your RPG-like choices in Bioshock were either a lopsided choice (stealth), a required choice to explore all areas of the game without backtracking (lightning, fire, etc.), or just near meaningless (ammo crafting).

But The Matrix movies where written as a three part story from the beginning. I thought they were all good. And I never finished Bioshock, so I don't know if they should make sequels.

Did they overlook the part where Star Wars having three additional prequels was a horrible idea? Or the fact that even the original trilogy was hard up for ideas (re: FUCKING EWOKS) by the time it was done?

Like StarWars, would 3 of them suck unforgivably?

And don't you guys start with "Oh but Ep III is the best of the prequels!".

Ebola, Typhoid, Syphilis - pick the "Best".

Why would any sane game developer want their series to be anything like Star Wars? The most 'whored out' IP of all time with more shit than substance.

let them first focus on the second then we will see if it will be worth another sequel etcetera...

What do you guys expect?

A sequel was more than imminent, it was a certainty. When they saw how well BioShock was selling, it pretty much confirmed that there would be a sequel. It couldn't be ignored, even if we didn't want a sequel. It really wasn't up to the development team, but their owner, Take-Two. I'm pretty sure this has to do with them wanting another high profiule franchise other than GTA, and they realized that BioShock has that potential.

And you guys are being too negative. I hate seeing a great franchise becoming shit too, but if they can keep making them great even after five sequels, then I don't see a problem. This is how I view CoD (Developed by Infinity Ward, of course). As long as the games they put out are great, then I don't see the problem. Remember that they ARE A BUSINESS, and they want to make money.

So here instead of expecting to be praised for announcing it's a planned trilogy, you've got a guy expecting to be praised for knowing that they could churn out endless sequels but might not exploit it.

Some people need to hush.

Speaking of Star Wars, it turns out robot chicken was right: they are planning a musical. So does this mean we should expect a Bioshock musical? Considering the first sequel's title, "Sea of Dreams," it seems very likely.

It's not that I hate the concept of a Bioshock sequel, but that they're already planning to make five new ones. That's sad.

The first one was alright, but in hindsight it was kind of bland. The sense of atmosphere was unparalleled, though and it needs no sequel. It stands on it own nicer than most games these days.
