Bioshock coming to the PS3 (again)? No. It's still not. photo

Recently, a website called Maxconsole posted what they claimed was a scan from the most recent issue of OPM UK that seemed to depict Bioshock running on a PlayStation 3. There was much jubilation from the owners of the newest Sony console, as the game was earlier reported to be exclusive to the Xbox 360 and the PC, and the game library for the $600 megaconsole is somewhat lacking. It took only moments for the story to hit Digg with the force of a thousand hurricanes!

Sadly, Kotaku stepped in to ruin everyone's good time with the worst medicine of all: the truth. It seems that the scan was, in fact, from the September issue of that magazine and for those of you who can count, September was almost four months ago. As it turns out, the original article from those many moons past was merely wishful thinking and there are no current plans to release Bioshock on any platform other than the PC and the Xbox 360. While this doesn't rule out the possibility of a future port, it certainly leaves many Sony fans crying softly on the theoretical shoulder of their large black friend.

This isn't the first time that this mistake has been made, and we assume that in another three months we'll be telling you the exact same thing (but next time, we'll use diagrams and sharp sticks).

Doesn't matter what system its on, i'll still play it. I mean, the dude had a drill through his chest in the trailer. Who doesn't want that?

I'm surprised that anyone actually gives a fuck about the PS3 still. I can understand people wanting the last few Sony exclusives to hit the 360, they already have that console or want one, not needing to spend out an additional $600+ to play one or two games is rational.

But scratching around hoping for games to be ported to the PS3 was never what the mighty Sony systems were about. Its certainly not why people bought into the previous systems, the PS2 was pretty much a given to get a first release if not an exclusive on big titles. With that changed and the fanboy base weakening to finger toting 8 year olds I do wonder why even bother with it at all.

Is that just wishful thinking Summa or is there some anti-anti-news we should know about?

It's coming right after FFXIII is released for the 360.

I dunno Jelster, that sounds a little harsh considering the age of the PS3.

I've always been about giving people - and in this case a gaming console - a chance. With the system not even released in all main territories, I would say the PS3 still has a chance to prove to be a competant machine.

And dude, get a goddamn avatar. You've been here long enough. ;)

I tend to be a little harsh. :) I have no doubts that the machine is very capable and the Sony playstation brand universally recognisable with gaming. But looking back at the PS1 and PS2 you never saw this desperation to get other titles or it was always countered with a list of what the PS2 could do for every Halo MS released. Its another big change and one that sold a lot of systems in the past.

Avatar hunting I will go, just for you. :)

Look, its not that complicated. They're not going to decide to port a game when the success of a console is not exactly for sure. Right now at like, what is it? 1.5 mil? Compared to how many 360's are out there (and still selling), its not worth it (right now) to spend the time porting it to the PS3. When more PS3's get sold you'll see more ports being made, but not just yet.

What's funny is that I saw these scans and totally jumped to conclusions, immediately writing a post yesterday afternoon. Before I hit "Live," I did about three minutes worth of research and found that the scans were hella old, so I deleted all of my work (it was a brilliant post, of course, so I was sad).

I guess I shouldn't have been surprised to see that someone jumped on the story today and then an hour later, debunked it.

But as far as "ports" are concerned and "exclusivity," it's totally nonsense this generation. We'll see it more and more during the life span of both systems.

When did they actually announce it for the PS3? Initially they said it was going to be xbox 360 and PC. If it hits PS3 its gonna be one less exclusive that the 360 needs for the consoles.
