You better believe that the BioShock "brand" is here to stay. The sequel to 2007's critically acclaimed game is not even out yet, but that hasn't stopped 2K Marin's creative director Jordan Thomas talking about games beyond the next chapter, possibly set in Rapture, possibly set beyond.
"I think Rapture remains fertile for as much expansion as a team sees in it," he states. "I absolutely believe that there might be future games set in Rapture in whatever time period, but I would also say that I think that the Bioshock brand is big enough that it could evolve."
The setting of Rapture is described by Thomas as being "one of the characters we don't want to let go," which sounds very much like we'll be seeing a lot more of the submerged city in future games. Perhaps that BioShock MMO that 2K once frighteningly suggested.
I can't wait for BioShock Big Daddy Bubble Dance Party on the Wii.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Sure, the quality will probably decrease with time, but as long as 2K Games make the games have rollocking good stories, I'll buy 'em.
Hopefully, even a DS game. I could do with a portable bioshock game.
I hear Lisa Gherardini is even in talks with 'Universal for a movie; that'd be sick!
What we need is a new environment:
Descendant of Ryan (character from 1) makes a new Rapture (10 years in the future).
A proto-type Rapture is found, built by Ryan's father.
Going with Qraze, a Bioshock/Dead Space knockoff set 50 years in the future, with an orbital rapture.
A cloud based Rapture (JRPG fans would salivate) set in an alternate fantasy timeline.
Rapture underground, beneath NYC.
A "rapture", based in a heavenly dream like state brought about by a process similar to the Matrix.
Hmmmmmm yes, OH I can't detect the un-neccessary sarcastic response to my question at ALL.
Nah,NO SARCASM THERE
Oh look, I can do sarcasm as well!! Isn't that grand, Rucksack, isn't that just fucking grand???
I'm just giving you a hard time!
Personally, I'm confused where to draw the line between consumerism and art.
On topic: great, exactly what we need - a new series to get raped and decrease in quality over time. Hoo-bloody-rah!
And that's fine - that's capitalism. And as long as they do a good job, they can create however many sequels they want, with the intellectual property they own. Can't say I'd buy a third bioshock game...... there's the danger of Bioshock becoming the next "never-ending" franchise.
