BioShock 2 'viral' site is creepy, as would be expected photo

With 2K Marin set to unleash BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams this year, it was only a matter of time before cryptic Web sites and narrative clues started popping up on the Internet.

The day for that happens to be today, as www.somethinginthesea.com appears to drop a few hints as to what we might expect to see in BioShock 2. The Flash-based Web site is full of cryptic information about the kidnapping of a girl near a beach, reportedly by a "thin attacker" who wore some kind of "red light" or a "miner's helmet." While that doesn't necessarily match the description of the infamous Big Daddy, a drawing of a child's toy that resembles the hulking harvester appears on the Web site as well.

There's been some speculation as to whether BioShock 2 would be a prequel, but a handwritten note found on the site is from March 18, 1967. This would suggest a sequel, although 2K reps have hinted that the game would be both a prequel and a sequel. Yeah, mindblowing, I know.

March 18, eh? That's one week before GDC, where word has it BioShock 2 will make an appearance. Coincidence? Nah, probably not.

I hope Bioshock 2 allows me to kill and maim the Little Sisters, I hated how the devs pussied out and made the little girls dissapear in a flash of light.

I am intrigued and would like to subscribe to their newsletter.

Only not really. They send me any emails, I'm deleting that shit. But still, sounds potentially interesting.

@Colette: I feel the same, but the teaser was pretty sweet. I just don't want a Raptue retread, I want bold originality, which to me is what the first one was all about.

I'm hoping it's on Island, so we get big daddies walking around outdoors coming through foliage with crazy lighting. A second location kind of thing, a plan B if you will. Basicaly making Raptue into the Lost Island.

Hope it doesn't take place in Rapture, keep he same "would you kindly?" twist and has an ending that fits in with the rest of the game. Which is probably what they'll do anyway.

Then again, I've seen nothing on this, so I'm still excited.

I think that they need to have at lease SOME of the game set in rapture. Part of what made the original so great was the design and art direction of the city. I agree that there needs to be some gameplay outside or Rapture, but to completely disregard it would, in my opinion, be a mistake.

I still remain CAUTIOSLY optimistic for Bioshock 2

Prequel and sequel, you say?

The devs should kindly "re-imagine" that turd of an ending, and make it not "cliched endboss fight #9,234,872,348.

Red light and miners helmet gets me thinking of the Rosie's. I guess they aren't that thin but that's what popped in my head before a big daddy did.

This time the Big Daddies are guarded by Fat Daddies. And the twist is when you find out that the guy who's been saying "Would you kindly not do that..." through out the whole game was just using reverse psychology. When you finally fight him at the end, for no reason at all he turns into a giant 3 headed dinosaur who spits flaming swords at you.

Madness! I used to Holiday in Liscannor, Co. Clare, it's less than an hour away from me! :D

Also, they thank fuck they called the police the guards. That's what they're called in Ireland: Garda Siochana, or guards for short.

At least it's well researched!

If you look at the map ireland has an x on it. I wonder if thats the main setting for the game? Also, the letter and newspaper clip were both from 1967, after the Bioshock one, therefore it's a sequal.

It could be part of the sequel idea. I think we'll see more updates with tales of little girls, probably being kidnapped to create new Little Sisters. This is going to be epic.

WAITWAIT, I got it: the one missing in the viral site IS the Little Sister in the PS3 teaser trailer... in fact, I think she was raised with some sort of genetic memory implantation of Rapture (in the trailer is before kidnapping, thus the doll left on the beach) and a Rosie or summat came topside to get her and bring her to Rapture.. so the premise of the new BioShock is to go back to Rapture and retrieve her for her fambly. There are no more new Little Sisters than her, she's seed corn for starting a new crop of LSs.

I'd like my Super Sleuth sticker now.

Better still, you're going down there to rescue her for her fambly and she's actually some sort of weird QUEEN of Rapture to be reckoned with.

GAH! BioShock ALWAYS does this to me. Intrigue dial is all the way to 11.

Me thinks it will follow the story of a perticular little sister, and how she was taken to rapture, before the events of BS1, and how things degraded down there untill the protagonist shows up in the beginning of one.

Then she will be left behind, when the protagonist takes the others back to the surface, and your story will be how you kept rapture alive, or escaped, or conversly if the cannon story follows the evil ending, the end boss will be the protagonist from the first game.

There will be more kidnappings - all of them in cities on the shoreline, with the same modus operandi - someone is bound to notice this - most likely the protagonist of the game is going to be a detective/special agent of some kind. (FBI? CIA? KGB? That sort of thing?) This is just the first note we got. This would explain the sequel part. I guess.

The Lynch character - could be anything.

This is going to be swell. :D
