BioShock 2 'Protector Trials' coming to PC March 14 photo

After a long delay, BioShock 2 add-on "Protector Trials" is finally coming to PC on March 14.

The single-player add-on offers a series of challenges, where a player takes on control of an Alpha Series Big Daddy in order to protect a Little Sister. The game's locations aren't new, instead reworked versions of the maps found on the game disc. Good news is that the add-on is entirely free for PC users, coming along with a game patch that fixes things like a mouse sensitivity issue players had reported.

So what about the story-driven "Minerva's Den" content? 2K says it's "still working" on it, and will "be making a similar announcement" closer to release.

This game's multiplayer component was like Dead Space 2's - dead on arrival. I remember playing it during launch week on PC, and having to deal with the unbearable lag - then, if you stuck with it, your reward was year late DLC.

Some games just shouldn't have multiplayer.

I feel bad for Bioshock 2's PC players 2k treats you guys like shit though we don't have it much better. Where's the playlist for the DLC maps? Oh you're never making it? Cool. Thanks.

@Magnalon, I like offbeat multiplayers and actually really enjoyed Bioshock 2's and feel it really could have been great if they invested more time in it's upkeep and Dead Space is fun if you don't take it seriously. I also enjoy AC:B. Just because it's not COD doesn't mean it's not good in it's own way.

Minerva's Den is all you really need. Such a wonderful experience.

@Magnalon: i'd say you're pretty much correct, it's very telling when we compare the actual very positive reception Minerva's Den DLC (a SP DLC) to MP DLC mediocre reception and comments.

Devs should really focus on playing to the strengths of their game instead of tacking MP just for the sake of it, at least in B2 and DS2 the main campaign didn't suffer or lose quality due to the resources diverted to make MP, sadly that's not the case for most games (AvP anyone?).

I'll pick it up since I'm one of the very few people who still believes in the game.
Please 2k: I don't want to wait until like July for Minerva's Den. The pack doesn't deserve that kind of treatment.

Protection missions aren't that appealing to many FPS players. On top of that, it's late. Who's going to buy it now?

@ Dear No Darkness

Yeah, at least they are releasing them though. I don't care much about this one but I really want to play Minerva's Den and was very upset when they announced it would not be coming to PC. I am so happy they reversed that and are making it for PC that they can take all the time they want.

@Fear No Darkness: I love mp in deadspace 2 an ac:b also! Like you said, it's fun if not taken seriously. Plus it's nice to play something different once in awhile

I enjoyed the Protector Trials, at least until I got to that one trial that doesn't allow you to buy health packs and eve and is plasmids only. That was so lame that I doubt I'll ever go back and finish it. As for the multiplayer, I enjoy it quite a bit, I agree with Fear No Darkness though, they need to make that DLC playlist damnit.

@LastFencer

"Who's going to buy it now?"

It's free soooooo nobody.

Wondering if I'd be able to download this.. seeing how none of the DLC are on Steam.

Anywho, I'll probably look into it, I found Bioshock 2 to be just as enjoyable as the first.

I don't care if it's not Call of Duty. That's the worst straw man I've heard all week: I play tons of independent multiplayer games.

I do care, however, that the game is shit, MP wise, and has awful support.

This DLC has nothing to do with the multiplayer, bro, no need to bitch about it. We all know it sucks by this point.

Protector trials were enjoyable once I got back into the swing of things, the bonus levels are amusing since you can just summon yo' daughter to kill them all.

@Blahblahblahblah

The DLC will be on the GFWL marketplace, silly.

I fear this may all be too late. I've moved on from Bioshock 2. I was even one of the people who loved the multiplayer.

I remember how great the PC version of Bioshock was, how smooth it played, how great it switched between Xbox controller and normal keyboard (the HUD even changed to reflect a more console-like game when you plugged in the Xbox controller)...

Then I look at Bioshock 2, remember that I liked it, and still ask "what went wrong with this port? The story mode was great, but everything else was a bad choice!"

For those of you who didn't get to play Minerva's Den on consoles:
If it ever hits the PC, get it ASAP. It's seriously one of the best Singleplayer DLC packs I've ever played. Packed with secrets and a way superior storyline as the Main game, even if it's a little short.

protector trials pretty much sums up why bioshock 2 blows compared to bioshock 1; too much emphasis on combat/pointless drivel.
