BioShock 2 PC widescreen issue gets a patch photo

BioShock 2 PC users recoiled, picketed when they realized something was up with the game's aspect ratio. Again, the dystopian FPS didn't do widescreen -- 16:9 and 16:10 -- right. But it should now.

Last afternoon, the Cult of Rapture, the official BioShock 2 Web site, promised that a patch would hit at 2 AM PST on February 23rd. It fixes, most notably, the widescreen issue. It also addresses the whole "I can't press M1" thing in the MP component of the shooter. In other news band-aid-related news, a "larger" patch is nearing "finalization" and is expected to hit the near future. Whine while you can.

Anyone else remember when a game was finished BEFORE you paid money for it?

Shame it's coming this late, seeing as I finished it on release day and have little intention to play it at the moment.
Wonder what the larger patch will bring (free plasmids like BioShock 1, maybe?)

What about consoles?

I didn't think this was an issue, honestly. It isn't like you're getting the videogame equivalent of pan-and-scan with widescreen in this case. Pre-patch, both fullscreen and widescreen could see roughly the same area. Fullscreen could see a little more vertically, and widescreen could see a little more horizontally. Not a big deal either way.

The first DLC will be multiplayer maps, rank cap rise and a 3rd weapon modification for all weapons. And, you know, shit.

@Tarvu Ah the long delayed "Poop Throwing" plasmid. You don't want to see what it does at lvl 3.

I played all the way through the game in 16:9 and it looked fine to me

Didn't something like this happen with the last game?

This exact same thing was a huge issue when the first game launched. I realize this game was done by a different team but is it that hard to look at the mistakes of their predecessor and say hey, let's not do that again?

How do you make the same mistake twice? Really now.

My 16:9 was all jacked up, probably because I use a weird screen resolution on account of using an HDTV as a monitor. I couldn't see health or any of the useful HUD stuff.

Shouldn't be any weird screen resolutions. Might be better off using standard 720p or 1080p rather than any 16:9 in between for a TV.

Unless you have one of those strange 16:10 HDTV's with 16:9 resolutions which makes almost no sense to me besides slightly larger 4:3 content and cut off 16:9 content.

So did they do that on purpose to make it even more reminiscent of the first game? Because seriously... it's not like they didn't already go through all that hassle before. Hell, did they even start with the latest updated version of the engine from the original game during development? That would have seemed like a good first step.
