The inclusion of multiplayer in BioShock 2 strikes me as unnecessary, but I'm willing to give a chance to anything that looks fun. Taking a peek at this new trailer, the fun factor is certainly promising to rear its beautiful head, and I'm quite pleased that the effort was made to tie it into the game's universe so that its inclusion makes sense.

What do you think? Will this threaten to cut into your Call of Duty time, or is the lure of Plasmid-themed chicanery not enough to convince you? If you're undecided, hit the jump and check out the videp. It may help to swing you one way or another.

HELL NO. Never.

But I agree with you, that it's unecessary but deserves a chance.

Unlike other games where multiplayer is shoehorned in (Metroid Prime 2), I think the core gameplay mechanics of Bioshock could lend itself well to multiplayer. If it's balanced properly it could work well and be a lot of fun. Just remember that it's not the main attraction.

Think this looks very, very good. I was a little skeptical at first, but with the actually universe/environment of bioshock placed in the multiplayer just makes it look like it will be a lot of fun and chaos.

Not even bothering with COD: MW2, so it won't be cutting into that time.

This could be because the GameCube was the only console I owned last generation, but I quite liked the multiplayer in Metroid Prime 2. Granted, it was always no more than a race for the super missile, but still, pretty fun!

On Bioshock 2, I do kinda have to wonder what the point of the multiplayer component is. It's not like I speak for everyone else or anything, but it's rare I devote any real time at all to a multiplayer component, and if I do, it's usually exclusively.

Because, thing is, you're never good at any multiplayer game when you first start playing it; it always takes time for you to be able to learn the ropes and then there's the daunting task of learning to play competitively.

With all these games coming out, and each one claiming to have the best and deepest mulitiplayer available anywhere, devoting any time at all to any of these games' multiplayer components just seems... exhausting.

Aw, yeah. This looks dope for sure. It looks like the multiplayer takes you to the beginning of the end for Rapture. It's believable and makes more sense in the context of the game than not. I'll give it a try.

Im glad this looks better than I thought. I mean, I figured they wouldn't let me down. It's just the thought of Bioshock multiplayer just sounds so weird. But this looks like it will be awesomely hectic. Which is exactly how I'd want it to be. :)

Honestly, I don't think it's necessary. Bioshock is one of the games that doesn't need a multiplayer to be considered "Game of the Year". Bioshock 2 is no different. I'll give it a try nonetheless. I'm still pumped for the game tho :D

Seems like a fun distraction that could give me a break from the Single Player for a bit. Most of my focus will be for the single player story.

Ack... that looks like an unbalanced mess.

I'm assuming having the big daddy is a game mode whereby everybody teams up to take the big daddy (daddies) down? Otherwise I can see this being deeply unbalanced.

Either way it's still looking better than I'd thought, though the character animation looks a bit stiff to me.

This doesn't look unbalanced, this looks like Jedi Knight meets l4d free for all while tripping on some old 1940's style acid! I don't know what to think fo this D:

As I said not five minutes ago on The Escapist, I think this trailer looks far more fun than Modern Warfare 2 in every way I can think of. My only worry is the plasmids and being able to slip into a Big Daddy suit might cause some balance issues. But otherwise it looks like awesome sauce.

@LsTr_Of_SmG: It spawns randomly on the map and it's a temporary power up. From the looks of it you become an ordinary Big Daddy and not the prototype con plasmids.

Because Bioshock is famous for it's mindless shooting and not the atmosphere and story. Who are you kidding 2K?

I wonder if there will be other weapons and plasmids. All I saw was fire, ice, lightning, telekinesis, a pistol, shotgun, and machine gun. If that's it then I'm going to be disappointed. I know it was a trailer and they don't want to give everything away, but I'm still worried.

Amazing how online Deathmatch can reduce any video game to a moronic level of juvenile banality.

It looks terribly unpolished, but you can see the potential. They've just got to make the animations look smoother, and make it a bit less garish.

I remember that early versions of TF2 look horrible. But that game turned out great after Valve polished it to near perfection.

I hope this isn't the version of multiplayer they plan to release. Please tell me it's still a very early model.

To be honest it looks like a clusterfuck... but as long as the single player's good I doubt it'll matter.

I think the role of multiplayer as an additional story component is one of the best ideas anyone has ever had. It's kind of like getting two games instead of one. Color me excited.

watched that vid with 'I want you (she's so heavy)' playing in the background because I was too lazy to turn it off to watch and the song's climaxing as the footage gets more frantic in it's montagery, it worked sooo slick.

Great. This probably means multiplayer achievements. Which means I won't be getting all of them since I tend to only play multiplayer games built for just that (i.e. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, etc.). Bioshock 2's multiplayer looks weak. Hopefully it looks better when it is released.

Bioshock doesn't need multiplayer. Le sigh.

It looks like decent fun, but I would have to echo the sentiment on it being totally unnecessary. Still, I'm curious to see how they handle you playing as a Rosie. Will it be like Juggernaut in Halo, or more like the kill streak loadouts in Call of Duty? Or something entirely different?

Dating this game for the single player, marrying this game for the single player, and banging the multiplayer on the side.
