I'll admit I was cynical about BioShock 2 when I heard it was announced, but this brand new trailer really does help warm me to 2K Marin's follow-up to the gorgeous 2007 shooter. It looks intense, sounds creepy, and appears to have a story that might do the original game justice.
The brand new footage shows off some fresh enemies and weaponry, not to mention hint at the game's ultimate villain, some female who appears to be mocking the Big Daddy as he fights to defend Rapture. Check out the video and let us know what you think.
There's something about that violin music that makes one feel all tingly, am I right?

goty for sure...holy s*** u guys r not goin to believe what is the 1st part of the game
Action itself isn't necessarily antithetical to "subtlety" or the elements that made the first Bioshock unique. In the trailer, even at its most frenetic, those elements seemed apparent to me - the dynamic lighting, somewhat idiosyncratic soundtrack and maddening enemies (that last bit makes this sound too much like a press release, I grant). Yes, the action seemed chaotic but I think a major part of Bioshock's hook came from the dissonance between chaotic action and lonely, introspective area exploration.
What I mean to say is that normally it would be unfathomable to me to go against the sentiment that games focus too heavily on violence and combat, but I really don't see this trailer, nor the game it's advertising, as a fair or quintessential target for that.
I kinda miss Ryan's disturbing speech about not taking s*** from people who steal all your hard work followed by a scene of someone trying to beat a little girl to death with a wrench.
To me the weakest part of Bioshock was a lack of a "lived-in" feel. The city of Rapture never game to me the impression that it had ever been a functioning city in which people were at first normal and productive. Adding to this was the linear feel of the game. Compare it with Half Life 2 and you realize that both games are just about the same in terms of linearity. But Half Life 2 gave you the illusion that you were part of a larger world in a more coherent sense than Bioshock did. And unfortunately, this trailer indicates to me that neither of these issues has been adequately addressed.
I almost watched this video, but then the cotton ad came on. Even muted, I could not bear to sit through to see the video. PLEASE find more varied ads, even if they're something ridiculous, I guarantee there are people wiling to pay to be in front of your videos.
The story of the first one was pretty good (despite the fact that systemshock 2 already exists) but i got incredibly bored with the gameplay. Sadly this looks pretty much the same (just like every FPS) and what little i've heard about the story doesn't interest me enough to play it.
Damn, how quickly some people forget that 2K Marin is comprised of some of the people that made the first BS. If anyone could make a great sequel, it would be them. No, we're going to judge a game based on a trailer, and immediately write it off based on that alone. Forget the fact that we haven't played it, that shouldn't matter. I hope BS2 is amazing just to spite everybody here.
2K Marin knows it was the story that was the greatest selling point of BS, so it's not like they'll just write some piece of shit and call it a story. Reserve all judgement of this game for when it comes out and you can play it, not based off a trailer that doesn't tell you anything about the game.
That said, I'm torn about either getting this or Splinter Cell: Conviction for my birthday.
Too much action? Did it occur to anyone that perhaps they pasted together the more action-heavy moments using what people these days call "editing"? I'd rather see a preview like this than a collage of ... wandering around and looking at posters & maps.
I hope this was just the "hey look stupid frat guys bioshock isn't as intelligent as you think, here's a bunch of ish gettin' blown the hell up" trailer. I hope they can pull my interest with the whole philosophy angle of the game again because the Whole Ayn Rand philosophy was sweet even if it was a bit of a cautionary tale vibe. It was good to see Ms. Rand's work getting some play.

Way to strip all the things that made the original so great and unique out of it 2K.
I like it.

Actually, I hear Brad Nicholson was the first Big Daddy. So he's playable.

Wait, that sounded weird, didn't it?

Fact: If you don't like it then you are devoid of creativity.
100% AGREED.
100% COTTON.
The ol' Bioshock marketing machine wasn't so action heavy.
I'll reserve judgement at least until the embargo lifts.
The first one was quite fun after all.
@WarZombie: "BS" is probably not an ideal abbreviation to use for a good game.
Wait, whats this? Bio-what?
