Bionic Commando: Rearmed sells 130,000 copies in first week photo

Ben Judd probably looks just like that right now. He's updated the Bionic Commando: Rearmed blog with some numbers relating to the success of the game and it's pretty staggering. 130,000 copies sold in the first seven days, no doubt vindicating his mad quest to go back to the series' 2D roots in the eyes of many a Capcom executive.

In addition to the sales numbers, Judd also throws down the average review scores of the game as listed by gamerankings. Across all three platforms, the game is scoring between 85 and 90 percent, with the major complaints being the lack of a jump button (moronic) and ineffective d-pad controls (probably more of a factor on 360). This, of course, falls right in line with Dyson's review from last week, once again proving that Destructoid is the home of all things tasteful and right.

I really want this to be the good news my idealistic gamer heart says it is. Hopefully, developers and publishers will see this as confirmation that there is still demand for quality, 2D platformers. It could also mean that we're due for an avalanche of hastily designed retro remakes. I'd be willing to accept such a thing on the condition that a small percentage of them wind up getting the amount of tender, loving care that Bionic Commando has.

Capcom might be able to pull it off nicely, but I'm worried about other publishers attempting the same thing. More likely than not, they'll just massacre it. They'll change it too much, or not enough, etc. I'm looking at you, Nintendo.

If this finally makes the publishers realize that 2D gaming is still viable, I'm hoping for new IP's altogether instead of revamping old games. There's less chances that they'll mess it up in truly epic proportions.

I'm assuming thats across both platforms. Either way, even if it was a 50/50 split, 65000 in a week is excellent for a xbla game.

Their success is well deserved. I am totally hooked on that game. I can only hope that other companies take note and realize there's still a market for well made side-scrolling platform games.

I'd personally like to see some new platformers that aren't remakes of old franchises as well. Get on it, games industry

Woot! Feels good to be a part of those numbers. 2D retro done right gets my vote every time. When is Mega Man 9 coming out? :D

One step closer to my master plan of getting a 2D HD Castlevania. Come on people, buy a great game for $10! Support a good cause. Feel good about yourself :)

Also, cocks.

I'm glad that BC:R did so well. I watched all the making of videos and found the team's enthusiasm to be contagious. It shows the corporate types that 2D is still viable.

Are you kidding? They felt like a lack of a jump button was worth complaining about? Were they not familiar with the original? Were these people actually paid for their input? How many more questions can I ask?

I would so buy this game if I wasnt preprogrammed to wanting to jump. Its just too hard for me to get used to it even after playing for awhile. Soundtrack and presention are epic though and almost worth the purchase in itself.

I loved the trial version, but I was unsure if I should spend money and buy this game. But after hearing those impressive numbers, I just had to buy it. Let this serve as a statement to the gaming industry!

The other day some buddies came over, we flipped on the PS3 and I was like, lets try BCR multiplayer. HOLY SHIT!! It reminded me of Smash Bros. We played it for quite a while and I wasn't even expecting it to be that good.

This game deserves the numbers it got. Great single player. Great multiplayer. Great remake!

I haven't bought it yet because I was waiting for the Capcom store to allow purchases from places other than the US and while I was waiting I spent the money on other stuff. Like food. So I can live. But I get paid tomorrow, so add another PC sale on to that for me, will you?

No question this is the best $15 I've spent on a game in ages.

There are so many things right with this game - way to go Grin and Capcom!
