It will be funny when all console games have DRM. :)
I will be soaking up all the irony and tears.
Even though that scenario will likely never happen, I'd still not like to be the guy whose internet conks out the moment he's about to beat a particularly hard level.
putting DRM that hampers a paying customer is basically committing suicide. Hope they weren't expecting this to sell.
Does it require a persistent connection as long as you're playing or is it only when you launch the game?
My net craps out on me frequently at home and if that affects me when I'm in the middle of a game then they can f right off, if I just need a connection to boot the game then I can live w that. I shouldn't have to, but I guess I can.
I'm not going to argue with anyone. I just wanted to state my opinion on the situation. I probably won't even reply anymore.
Way to go Capcom! Us innocent gamers out here that actually PAY for your games really love being treated like this. I hope nobody buys this effin game on any platform to stick it to them.
Sometimes I get the idea that there are too many decision-making people at Capcom with absolutely NO CLUE, was this really the ONLY way to do this? Someone please help them get their heads out of their asses!
If this continues with future Capcom releases I will be devastated and definitely be buying less of whatever they try to sell. Goddammit.
Precisely because of this. Requiring the connection you ensure that only the guy who bought it can play at once.
That said, I have 2 ps3. one for me, one for my brother. I have my account on his PS3. Am I pirate scum for not paying twice for a game that will be played at the same house? Sometimes I take advantage of it by playing games that didn't add splitscreen because it wouldn't be "the perfect experience".
I enjoyed the first BCR a lot, and played split screen with my brother. Even that would't be possible now, as my internet connection sucks, and I tent to lose contact with the PSN every hour or so, subsequently getting it back. But it would mean to get booted from the game in this example. So, ok fuck you.
I would be ok if the game sharing wasnt availale from the start. It would mean that I'd buy a lot less games, as I sometimes perceive as paying "half" even if my brother don't chip in.
But I can understand their side. every copy can be played on 5 ps3 with no extra money. people just offer to share over the net, and some scum create accounts, buys the games and sell the accounts at profit on ebay, as they would sell the game, getting 2-3 times the value.
So yeah. It sucks for me, it sucks for them, for everyone. Go figure what to do now.
translation "la la la.... not listening.. la la la" (with fingers in ears)
The reason why this is bullshit is because there are PLENTY of reasons internet goes down, let alone PSN. Add in the fact I routinely bring my consoles to other places from my house, usually places that don't have internet, and there's less than 0% chance I'll buy it.
Because you are no longer "buying", you are long-term "renting".
At least they fessed up beforehand this time, but this type thing needs to stop. No one really gives a shit about BC2 in the long run, but if I were to lose the ability to play a classic (like, say, Demon's Souls) years down the road, I would need to hurt someone. It's such horseshit, and would actually ENCOURAGE me towards piracy. It's no wonder piracy is so rampant on PC, after years of dealing with this fuck-stain cuntery
Don't buy it!
Drm hasn't been put into the game to piss anybody off. Or do you think the guys at capcom are laughing into their monitors because dey trololololed u?
>Don't buy it!
*looks at the previous comments* Uummmmmm, yeah, I think they got that part.
Honestly man, it's not a big deal to sign on to start the game. But to me, being required to connect to the net JUST to play is like having to ask permission to play a game I have already paid for and more or less "own". If the DRM is eventually patched out it would become desirable to me.
Let's say I buy the game and lose my job, it happens to people from time to time. If I decide to forego internet service in order to pay rent and put food on my table all of a sudden I am not allowed to play a game I have purchased?! I realize this won't apply to the majority, it's just an example.
Put simply, I am and always will be a person that feels if I spend my hard-earned money on a product I should be able to use that product in darn near any way I please as long as I'm not breaking the law. That includes being able to use said product anytime I want to with no restrictions.
It feels like Capcom is saying "Don't blame us if you can't play our great new game that you PAID US FOR. Blame the pirates or blame your internet connection, it's not our fault"
DOWN WITH DRM!!
This PSN DRM is only slightly more restricting.
There's NO EXCUSE for requiring permission to play something I spend money on.
AaronSTC also made a great point about the 360 consoles. I was quite shocked to learn that I could not access my 200+ Rock Band DLC content unless I was connected to xbox live when I took my HD over to a friend's for game night, but that is remedied by simply bringing my whole console instead of just the HD. So yes, many devs use some form of this tactic and I'm not entirely opposed to it. But this PSN DRM is just so much more restrictive it's ridiculous imo.
"Uh.. 360 doesn't have this DRM because all XBLA games already do a very similar thing so I don't see why people are praising 360. XBLA games are linked to a specific console load your profile onto another 360 and you can't play any of those games without internet (or XBL)."
Yeah, but once I download it on my 360, I never have to connect to the internet again and I can play it until the end of time. With the PSN version, I have to be connected every time I want to play the game. Pretty big difference.
Start laughing about, oh, 30 years ago. The entire POINT (from the manufacturer's view) of a console is DRM.
Well I'm certainly not saying that it should be there. My statement was more towards the people who were actually looking forward to it coming out and then not buying it because of probable events in the future.
Makes sense but it does hurt people (like you) and even me....
I also own two PS3, one in the bedroom and one in the living room. My account is on both systems as we don't buy anything under my GF's account, it's just easier to manage that way. We play Borderlands online co-op together and stuff like this doesn't fly for me.
That stashe does grant the wearer the ability to do instant piledrivers...I'm just sayin, lock your doors.
