I don't see why a remake is necessary, but you are right about the flash engine. It does kind of suck. Regardless, this probably won't be priced at more than $5, so I'll gladly double dip.

So he's willfully rejecting crowdfunding in favor of the publisher model, which is exactly what Kickstarter enthusiasts are happy to see it replace. That's a little bit surprising.

A remake of a game that's not even a year old? They're giving Square-Enix and Capcom a run for their money!
I'm guessing this will be separate from the original version on PC (ie we'll have to repurchase it) but I'm totally okay with that. The original game was such a steal it was ridiculous.

Allow me to shoot in 8 directions instead of 4, and I'm down. I consider the game fundamentally broken otherwise.
Diagonals can be hit by proper use of the physics. Otherwise it would take much of the challenge out.
I've been "suffering" from corrupted save(s) with this game for a while now. Some of the newest Steam achievements that I earn seem to register, but none of my progress is recorded in-game anymore. I never really considered how trying to patch a flash game with so many "moving parts" would be so difficult, but it makes sense. Bring on the remake, I'll invest another 100 hours for sure. Especially if there's co-op. Omgggg.
Happy day! There were two indie games that I wanted on consoles so badly that I was considering chopping a pinkie off. Hotline Miami is one, and Binding of Isaac was the other.
I will buy this again if you get it off whatever engine it's on.

This can't come soon enough. I would play so much of this if I could sit on my couch or at least not steal time from my wife's powerful computer. Absolutely insane the specs required to run it decently, though I understand the reasoning.
Those questioning the reason for the remake: It's because it's being made for consoles. Porting the current version to consoles most likely won't work very well, and it would likely be easier to make the game from the ground up with consoles in mind.
I think the main reason for the remake is to dispose of the ABSOLUTELY SHITTY flash engine.
