All movies are not shit right now. There's a fuck ton of great movies and a fuck ton of shit movies. You just have to get off your ass and not force feed whatever the "Flavor of the Week" flick is. I'm sick of hearing whiny pessimist bitch like there are no good movies out there. There's a ton of good movie within the last 5 years and there's a lot of promising movies to come. I disagree with his premise that hollywood is starting to make shit movies, they've always made shit movies and recently I think there's been an upturn. The last few years has seen avatar, inception, toy story 3, brokeback mountain, the dark knight, all triumphs in what they set out to do. Even the latest harry potter movie was quite good.

The thing about having an opinion is that sometimes you shouldn't use it. Call of Duty is fine to play, it's easy to jump in and out of. That's the reason most people play it, there sure as hell not playing it for the revolutionary gameplay and design.

But the videogame generation isn't US. It's the newer gamers who are buying all these new terrible rehashed unoriginal games.

I think it's true action movies have been looking to videogames for inspiration, mostly inspiration from shit games (plot wise), and most if not all have been a bit shit.. so he has a point. But its no-ones fault but those commissioning/making them.
It's also fair to say story telling in gaming as a whole needs a kick up the arse, we complain about it pretty regularly.

Only movie that even successfully tapped into gamer culture that I recall was Zombieland, not particularly because it had zombies in it, but more the end that you could have called it "Dead Rising: The Movie" and it wouldn't have seemed inappropriate and people would have still enjoyed it. Frank West would fit right in.

yahh i personally like him as an actor but, like jim said , stick to the industry you know, and besides that movie Faster has the most over used plot line for revenge, even the gba pokemon games have better plot lines than that movie, so like before, fully know what the fuk your talking about before commenting about it.
I don't like Mr. Thorton, but his statement is completely ridiculous. He's stared in some of the crappiest of the crap. Bad Santa wasn't even that good, regardless of whether or not it was funny. It didn't have a deep message, either, so where the fuck is he coming from?
Scott Pilgrim was amazing, but it failed because of a 'OMG GUNS & EXPLOSIONS' movie that was catered to people who jizzed over having Stalonne killing people and had nothing to do with video games.

There are still a lot of good movies out there. What he said was ignorant though. With that said, There's only a few of his movies that "make me feel good."

I don't think he recognizes the reason video games are lacking as a source of inspiration - the problem with video games is that they have looked to much like movies for years.
It's practically self-referencing - Video games copy movies, and movies copy video games. At the end of the day both become really stale. And then Toy Story 3 and Mario Bros. Wii come along and remind you why you watch movies and play games again.
