Big surprise: Crysis 2 looks scary good photo

Sorry about that, folks! You would have seen this story go up on the site earlier in the day had my monitor not erupted in flames upon loading the first two screenshots of Crysis 2 in my browser.

Perhaps I'm easily impressed by fancy-looking visuals, but jeez, the way this game appears in these shots is starting to frighten me. Running around a realistic depiction of New York City in the second generation Nanosuit sounds like good times, doesn't it?

In the Crymod forum thread from which the pictures surfaced, "highly vertical gameplay" is briefly mentioned. If that actually means what I think it means ... oh boy. My experience with videogames has taught me a few important life lessons, such as: "jumping off of high structures is never not fun."

Package-rendering technology has come so far. Now I can finally play a game and say that my character has an armadillo in his trousers.

The computer I'm going to build ten years from now just exploded trying to run this at max settings. Damn it.

@DreRox

It's probably heavily downsampled. Here's what the first Crysis looks like rendered at 25600x16000 (yes, 25 thousand by 16 thousand) downsampled to 720p.

Wow, my laptop will explode because barely can run Crysis (but in a decent 40fps), Like Capitain obvious, the PC will take the best part of this and will be the best looking...

I am sick and bloody tired of New York City being the setting for video games. I mean, come on people. How about something new and creative. How about Guangzhou China? How about Austin Texas? How about, NOT NEW YORK CITY ANYMORE!

Can't wait to play it on my PC, glad to see the consoles getting some love though... Of course, as usual with Crytek, their engines scale like a mofo, so PC users are in for some hotness.

That is the most exciting prospect, regardless of how excellent Crysis 2 may be. Timesplitters is one of the greatest series of all time. No library is complete without a copy of T2 or Future Perfect. When this gen's TS comes out, it'll be a day one purchase for me almost irregardless of critical adulation or lack thereof.

And the cycle of PC developers demanding that you purchase brand new hardware in order to "fully" experience a game continues.

Yes, I know that you can still play it at "lower settings", but then why even bother creating a game that only 5% of gamers can experience at maximum settings?

I don't know, maybe I'm just missing something, but games like this don't make any sense to me.

I suppose we can all enjoy it next decade?

I'm fairly glad it's coming to 360/PS3. My PC can just about run Crysis but I don't think it will be up to the challenge of Crysis 2. On a console version, I doubt it'll have the really outstanding graphics but I'm sure it'll still look pretty slick.

ffs you fools this is not ingame. Go look at crysis 1 screenshots, they look like this. Crytek does it every time and you guys all fall for it saying omg my pc cant run this when it probably can.

its just that most pc gamers are ignorant and wont play a game unless they can play it at maximum detail and like 100fps.

Play it on regular settings and its still pretty and smooth.. i dont get why everyone has such a problem with doing this.

@ kjohnson

I found it to be quite the amazing game, thanks. The flack it gets from people who can't play it, or from people dissapointed by anything after the hype, annoys me, because it's just a damn good shooter with pseudo-open world levels and awesome suit powers in the most photo realistic graphics ever.

I cannot imagine how anyone could actually play the game and say it sucked, unless they just don't like FPS games.

I thought it was crap myself first time around as all i did was jet through the game with speed on.. but then I realised all the things you can do with the suit, after you realise what options you have its amazing.

The game should come with a label warning saying:

"May melt console if played for more than 20 minutes at a time"

@Lstr Of SmG

The first game was actually very well optimised, hence it could run on pc's at the time. It probably has more optimisations implemented than a source game, and if anyones ever optimised a source map, you'll understand what I'm saying. :P

@Gilthalas If your pc can run Crysis... it's probably better than a 360/PS3. Just turn down the settings. And these screenshots are rendered in-game, though not during actually gameplay.

@wallet: Most pc players don't care whether or not a game plays at 100 FPS, especially considering most games have, you know FPS caps, that usually never go over 90.
