It appears that Microsoft might be making another run at cutting down on dirty gamertags. Last night around 9 o'clock, another Live bomb hit, permanently separating some gamers from their beloved names. Dtoid's very own Joe Burling was in the fallout, among others. After calling Live support (where magically nobody has the ability to reinstate a gamertag) Joe will not be able to play on Live unless he changes his gamertag.
There is one little catch: Some of these names aren't really dirty. Joe's name "Buck F1tches" does not violate the terms of use agreement, and by itself, really isn't dirty. After speaking to customer support, they agreed that there was nothing wrong with Joe's gamertag, but explained that they couldn't do anything about it once it had been banned. Another example is that of "cocokr1sp," who was also banned without warning at the same time. "TeaBagger" was a gamer that raised a stink a few months back on IGN, even though it's an in-game achievement on Shadowrun. Microsoft clearly states in the XBL code of conduct that an email will be sent out to each user, but no such attempt has been made.
Is it the borderline "leet speak," by using the number one in the tag? Why are these names being banned while names like "ALLnigsGoToHell" and "SummaGGL" are still in action? Are these not offensive enough? Does this mean that Paris Hilton can't use "Cock3y3dWhor3" as her gamertag?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Another really frustrating thing is that it happened in the middle of a ranked Halo 3 match. I was just about to win teh halos when it ended my game and asked me to change it. Great timing, MS.
I'm totally drawing some toids out of that image BTW.
Fuck yeah, man. Fight that shit. Do battle with Bill Gates if you have to.
Of course not, Stunna, your gamertag is simply Spanish.
Sorry your clever gamertag has been banned >_<
Get well soon, "N00Bphuckr"...or should I say "hugzygamer_07"
I blame the flame banner!!!
Anyways, this is pretty stupid. Really not sure why there so uptight about this, especially since you are a paying customer.
The picture on the other hand? Brilliant.
By the end of the two months, not one of the names had been banned. One person had their mic privileges cut off for a week or two. In short, Microsoft sucks at this.
What can you really do though? Shit, I already know the answer to that... you can spend hours and hours on the phone bitching and moaning to Microsoft agent after Microsoft agent repeating yourself countless times until your case finally gets escalated to someone with the power, but not the ability to reinstate your gamertag.
It *might* be possible to get your gamertag reinstated, but I don't think it's worth the time and effort you would have to spend doing so.
I definitely see your point, but the effort required is just too much of a pain in the ass and even if successful it would not change policy so your efforts would not help others.
My advice is change it to B1ck Futches and call it a day. Fuckers
Buck if you get to keep your GS and friends then Im sure it'll be all fine.
but i do think there is a way to get around this microsoft nonsense.
my friend BigDaddyFatSax was told he had to change his and some how he got around it. i will find details and report back.
i dread the day when they decide BiZznAcH is inappropriate.
stinks too because I was in that game and it was a social game. luckily I wasn't on their team :D
