Big Boss will be the star of future Metal Gear games photo

It's not over? I recently finished Metal Gear Solid 4. It took me nine f*cking continues to win that last fight. I love the game and the series, but after that, I've had my fill of controlling Solid Snake! No worries, though. It looks like future Metal Gear games will focus on other heroes.

1UP spoke with assistant producer Ryan Payton, who points out that MGS4 isn't necessarily the end of the series.

"There are some misunderstandings that this is the final Metal Gear game. But it's really the final chapter of the Solid Snake story. That's all."

If Snake is out, then who? Payton notes that there is "still a lot of room for filling in the gaps as far as Big Boss is concerned."

That makes sense, but it doesn't take too much of an imagination to think up a scenario or two for a future game. Series fans know that the Metal Gear story has an absolutely massive cast. In a game world that revolves around cloning and cybernetics, just about anything is possible. And really, how many times have you said "that bitch ain't dead" while playing a Metal Gear series game?

Play tells us that the producer also says that new maps, skills and rules will be added to Metal Gear Online in the future.

I'm fine with that. Big Boss would be a great character to flesh out. I'd also like it if the next Metal Gear had Raiden as the hero, which I think they kind of played at during the end of MGS4

Yeah, I was under that Metal Gear Solid was over, but not Metal Gear itself. There are thousands of words they can use to glue onto the end of Metal Gear yet!

What would be the new title? Metal Gear Naked? Personally I like the idea of Metal Gear 3. Not only does it sound cool, but it'd confuse the hell out of everyone. :)

I think a really cool MGS game idea would be fleshing out the story of what Raiden was doing during those 10 years between MGS2 and MGS4 that he was working for Big Mama. They could really do a lot with that.

I am more interested in a game involving Bog Boss. MGS3 was incredible and I think Big Boss is a deep character who I would like to get to know more.

9 continues for that fight? Man you suck! :-P

That fight was one of the easiest of the lot imo!

On topic, I'm happy with BB getting fleshed out. Aslong as the series isn't whored to death it's cool!

MG and MG2 remakes? That'd be badass on the PSP, like the Final Fantasy (1 & 2) remakes/ports.

That would be cool. MGS3 is one of my favorite games (even after playing mgs4), and I think they would be wise to go back and revisit that story. First of all, the 60's era tech (I felt) made the game feel more immersive. The lack of clones and nano-machines makes the story and characters a lot more believable (Volgin was the only one with any kind of super-natural power).

MGS 4 SPOILERS AHEAD:

I also hope they lose the world wide, multi-location romp of MGS4 in favor of the more focused missions of the first 3. I really liked the feeling of dropping into an area and carrying various missions aimed at getting at, and taking down something at the heart of the enemy base. It felt much more badass then completing a mission, picking up and jumping to the next location on the opposite side of the world (no really, middle east-> south america -> prague -> alaska). I still like MGS 4, but that was the one serious thing I felt was lacking when compared to the other games in the series.

I wanted a game about Ocelot or Gray Fox. But if the next game is about Big Boss' exploits, doesn't it feel that they're playing it safe with the main character?

So uh whatever happened to that Metal Gear 3 game they were supposedly making? Anyway, I don't think there is anything left to say, as MGS 4 wraps-up almost everything in a neat little package with the MGS 4 Database filling up the occasional gap.

I kinda imagined that they would start all over again from scratch, and create a completely new Metal Gear series in an alternative time-line, with Solid Snake and everything...
That would probably attract the less hardcore audience who stays away from the Solid games because of the complicated storyline.

But I wouldnt mind another game with Big Boss.
A current-gen Metal Gear game with Jungle settings just like in MGS3 would be awesome!

@SilverDragon1979 - It was actually only 5 years between MGS2 and 4.

1964 - MGS3
1970 - MGS:PO
2005 - MGS1
2009 - MGS2
2014 - MGS4

But I agree, I'd love to see the events between MGS2 and MGS4 that involve Sunny's rescue and Raiden's torture. It shouldn't be a Metal Gear Solid game though, but something new.

The time line should end with MGS4. I'd be disgusted if they continued the story when there are so many pivotal characters that could be explored.

Damn. I was hoping for Metal Gear Sasaki (no really, I was), or at least something else where they can start a new story now that the Snakes are wrapped up. Then again, maybe we'll get some Pime Taradox! action and have Solid Snake fail in Metal Gear 1.

A Raiden game might be cool too, but not under the Solid title. I could go for a futuristic and actually good Tenchu style game with crazy cyborg abilities, but still an emphasis on stealth and strategy.

Really though, Kojima Productions can keep making them and I'll keep buying them. Love everything about this series.

i'd also go for the original metal gears as psp remakes. i love the idea of doing it like someone suggested, where you can play as both snake, and big boss (knowing his background in creating outer heaven and such)

SPOILERSFUCKSHITSPOILERS

i suppose they could do a story involving raiden and how he got his cyborg abilities. they never really went into that.
along with rescuing sunny from the patriots.

or they could just...you know....stop?

I'd like to see the perspective from Metal Gear's point of view.

Actually I think I would be fine with the series just ending. Having all those games be so good is rare. And MGS2 was barely making it. Don't ruin it!

I cannot wait. 4 was so incredible. I can see where there still are a few plot holes waiting to be filled in the life of Big Boss. I can't wait for that MGO content too! I read you'll be able to play as different characters in certain aspects, I wanna play as Raiden. Lol, I never thought I'd ever say that.

Hmm... sure hope it doesn't border on milking. MGS3 is my favorite of the series, and in fact Big Boss/Naked Snake is my favorite character in the franchise... but MGS3's control is really weird for its time (nowhere near as good as MGS4 obviously), and they need to cover how Naked turned into a bad guy, so it could be cool. Of course, since it's Metal Gear Solid it'll no doubt be PS3-exclusive, which means I won't be able to play it.

Nine? Damn. I somehow managed to get myself killed during that fight on Liquid Easy but had no problems what so ever with it on Normal. You try and figure that one out cause I couldn't *shrug*

I really, REALLY, hope they stop with the Solid series. Pick up a new branch of Metal Gear games, with a new plot and new cast of characters. After MGS4 I'm ready for something new. The story as a whole has now been explained and came full circle in 4, so there is no need to retread old material imo. Get a new cast, new setting, but keep the same feel.

Big Boss is Solid Snake though. Its pretty much just gonna be the same as it was before they ended the Snake story.. not thats a bad thing but i would prefer they would just say that they were gonna make more games based around Snake. I mean Snake Eater had Big Boss in it and he was identical to Snake from MGS2.

I would love to see a combo of MGS3 & 4. The next one should have Big Boss in Vietnam in the late 60s. You see have the jungle and camoflage tactical aspects, but also have a war going on between the US/SV forces and the VC/NVA. With Big Boss having to sneak his way through, to stop the russians and the NVA from making some terrible new weapon.

That would be frickin sweet.
