Here's the first trailer for Konami's Beyond the Labyrinth, a very pretty 3DS game that I've been really keen on nabbing. It features a little girl being cute, which could get endearing or annoying depending on whether or not Konami hires a decent voice actor in the West.
Gotta say this trailer is a bit off-putting. The game is shaping up to look absolutely gorgeous but that girl sounds like your typical annoying/clueless (anime) girl. I like Japanese voices in general but the girl sounds so happy and poppy while the environment they're exploring doesn't evoke the same feel.
From the trailer, it's a strange combination, but then again we don't know much about the game yet. And of course it's hard to tell what's really going on with the Japanese text and voices.
i like the idea of NPC character(girl) being your companion and speaking directly to the camera like she was speaking to the player. plus the game looks gorgeous
Remember back when people thought the 3DS would have good graphics? This is about on par with some of the better looking PSP games.
I mean, how can the Resident Evil and SSFIV 3DS games look that good but everything else looks like crap?
And I don't reserve any hope that they can find a voice actor for that girl that wouldn't annoy me in 30 seconds. She's already annoying and I have no idea what she's saying.
Looks pretty great but as you said the girl could get annoying if the wrong voice actor is used.
As for the silent Hill Collection, I think the problem is that they have to match the moments of the lips that were motion captured by other people so its not truly their performance. They got some experienced game actors for it. I think it'll be fine over all.
I really hope that they have the option to use the Japanese VO if it gets localized, Cutesy Anime voices never translate well into English. I'm really excited for this one.
I was interested ever since I saw the screens, this trailer does not disappoint, for what little gameplay they show, I'm still interested :), oh and the game looks really good,
