Beyond Good & Evil 2, I Am Alive, still in development photo

If you think Ubisoft had abandoned two of its more unique IPs so that it could dedicate an entire team to delaying Splinter Cell: Conviction, then think again. Ubisoft has confirmed that the long-awaited Beyond Good & Evil 2 and the game known only in concept form, I Am Alive, are both still in production.

Geoffroy Sardin, CEO of Ubisoft France could not give any details on the two games, he merely stated that "they are still in production" when asked. Considering both games seemed highly unlikely to ever see the light of day, it's still a step up from previous circumstances.

The last time we heard about Beyond Good & Evil 2, it was allegedly "on hold" until further notice. Before that, an Ubisoft executive tried to deny all knowledge of the title. As far as I Am Alive goes ... well ... who the f*ck cares about that game? Until Ubisoft give us more than a few shreds of ideas, at any rate.

Ubisoft's allergy to BG&E is concerning. No idea why the publisher just doesn't sell the IP to somebody else if it's so distraught by the idea of publishing another one.

I liked I Am Alive when it was Japanese and called Zettai Zetsumei Toshi or SOS: The Final Escape/Disaster Report (depending on where you lived). Ho ho ho...elitist gaming snob humour.

BG&E2 better come out or I will put all the crappy Ubisoft shovelware games in a cannon and fir them at Ubisoft HQ.

I never really understood the interest in I Am Alive. Jade Raymond's not that talented and the game's concept just seems like a copy of Disaster Report/SOS: The Final Escape.

I have BG&E but I've never played it. I should probably do that after I'm done with Darksiders and Bayonetta.

No! Don't sell the IP!

This is a very delicate situation. Just leave everything the way it is. I do not want anything fucking up this title.

I'm very concerned for BG&E2's health... this is the same publish that loves half-assing its way across gaming.

I can only hope BG&E2 is a straight sequel, and not borrowing from Assassin's Creed.

Hey any news about Beyond Good and Evil 2 that isn't "It's cancelled" is good news.

And there's not nearly enough disaster survival games. I mean ever Day of Crisis was pretty decent.

Anyone who would like to know more about I Am Alive, I recommend an old article on the Video Games Blogger that takes its cue from a feature article that gamesTM published back in Dec 2008.

Its about time we got some news on Beyond good and evil 2. The first one was brilliant and the cliff hanger ending basically promised a sequel.

They better not mess this up.

No one should criticize Ubisoft for how slowly they're putting out a sequel to an IP that sold less product than my cousin's lemonade stand. Just be glad we're getting a sequel to this fantastic game at all.

Why do I feel like they're pulling everyone's leg on this game? I just wish we'd see some actual game play for it...

Agreed with Stevil - the first time I've heard about I Am Alive, I thought about Disaster Report. I hope they'll rip it off, that game was fucking mint.
And I can't wait for Beyond Good & Evil 2. Is that true that Benoit Sokal and Yoshitaka Amano are involved? These guys are crazy.
Also, jorgedc is amazing. Cheers.

Finally confirmation that it isn't dead. Hoping that Ubi doesn't make a 180 and say that this was a mistake. Really want to see BG&E2.

I bought BG&E when I saw it on DToid's best games of the decade. I was not disapointed, AND REALLY DESERVES A SEQUEL. NOW.

I Am Alive is tickling that certain spot that gets me very exited.
And that spot is, for once, not my penis.

Oh, and give me my fucking Beyond Good and Evil Two! Like seriously? Stop putting this on hold, shaft some fucking Minigame collections instead!

I had to force myself to finish BG&E, but it did have some really good ideas. I'm glad to know the sequel is still a go. A diverse selection of games = a happy me.

Bought too many copies of Beyond Good and Evil now, so that other people can experience how great the game is. I can't wait for the 2nd one. HURRY UP! I need to know what happens next!

My impression is that Ubisoft fears that if that BG&E2 sucks, or is even an average action game with no real connection to the first game, they will look like assholes in the eyes of the gaming community, while if they release a well-crafted, charming and enjoyable game like the original it will sell exactly 793 copies, like the original - but with the development costs of a cur-gen game. Kind of a lose-lose situation from a management POV.

Of course I could be completely wrong, this is pure speculation.
