Better than Ikea: The custom Pac-Man coffee table photo
  share: Twitter Facebook Reddit Digg
filed under: #Pac-Man

Looking for the perfect accent to his game room, Ontario-based game collector Syd Bolton came up with a great idea – hire someone to design a Pac-Man coffee table!

Bolton contacted artist Erin McFadden who transformed a regular old coffee table into a work of art, depicting a classic arcade Pac-Man scene. As awesome as the final piece is, Bolton says his original vision was even more grand.

“At first I wanted a collage of my favorite video games characters,” he writes, “like Link, Mario, Dirk the Daring, Ratchet & Clank, Sly Cooper.”

But the timing for Pac-Man was right, as he’d just added an original Pac-Man arcade cabinet to his already impressive collection. You can check out more information about his full collection at his Web site; Bolton is also the curator for the Personal Computer Museum, which you can read more about online.

The giant pac-man is a bit much, otherwise a+ for effort :)

yeah the giant pacman would have worked better if that table hadn't been routed like that. I'm assuming this was a table they had lying around instead of purchased to do this.

Holy crap he has a lot of Xbox games. Oh yeah, cool table. Are we allowed to put drinks on it?

Wow, it took me a few minutes to remember who Dirk the Daring was. My shame aside, I like the idea but the giant Pac-Man kinda takes away from the coolness. If it was like a complete layout from one of the levels, and it shows Pac-Man chasing blue ghosts, that would have been better. Then again, I'm not an artist who makes crazy cool art on coffee tables.

I would give someone my right lung for that table. Not sure what the current price is on the black market is but I'm pretty sure I'm getting a good deal for the last parts of life before I stop breathing

Thanks for the comments. To answer some of the questions:

1) I do have a lot of Xbox games - around 735 to be exact.
2) No you are not allowed your drinks -- but I do have (not pictured on here yet) some GREAT Pac-Man coasters made by local crafty "lostmitten" - check out what she sells on Etsy by looking here: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=22020483

A buddy of mine is already working on his Galaga table.

And finally, yes this table came with my house when I bought it. It was brown and ugly -- and didn't fit in the room. NOW IT DOES!

Hey all, it's the artist here. Thanks for all the comments! I thought I'd mention that there is a purpose to the giant pacman. I had no idea so many would object to him!! For one, if we want to keep the table functional, having a big area in one colour creates a place where you will not feel guilty putting things;) and due to the curves of the table it coincides better then the very straight-edged game. I thought about painting the full game on it, but felt that to be predictable and boring. The giant pacman sure catches the eye from afar. Oh by the way, that's only a small sampling of Syd's insane collection! You should see the ps2 collection! And every other gaming system ever invented!!
