Better late than never: Lair gets analog controls photo

You remember the big stink the SIXAXIS control scheme of PS3's Lair caused, don't you? Gamers and reviewers were frusturated with the motion-only control, as analog control was not provided as an option. When the title was rated by the gaming press, it recieved mostly negative marks because of this lack of control options.

Now it seems that analog control is coming in an update. IGN says that Sony Japan provided first details today on a free update for Lair, and analog control is listed among the update items. On top of this, DualShock 3 rumble support and a targeting icon have been added.

That's not all: Sony will offer a free download that permits use of Wind Dragon and Poison Dragon in any stage, and some free Lair-themed PS3 themes will be offered as well.

These downloads will be available in Japan on the 17th, and IGN guesses that we'll see them at the same time.

What do you think? Is this enough for you to dust off (or rebuy) that old copy of Lair

Analog controls should have been included with the game...

I'm not sure since I've never played the game, but I don't think that the control was the only problem.

I've never played so I'm not sure. I do want to try it now though, so maybe I'll rent it or something.

I'll buy it when it hits the $20-30 price range. Otherwise, not happening no matter how much they fix. The issue is that the game just isn't worth a starting price of $60 based on gameplay alone.

I'll definitely give it a rent since they finally got around to putting analog controls in there. Sheesh, was it too much to ask for from the start?

Now that it has analog support I'll consider it again. But I probably won't get it until the price drops to $20-30 like loki said.

With analog controls I'd give it a go for $20.

Awesome! New controls!

Shame the rest of the game still sucks.

New controls still won't fix this game. I played it, and it was mediocre at best, even overlooking the controls.

Since I only own two PS3 games (Ratchet and Clank, Resistance) I should probably take a look at picking it up, if only to give me another PS3 game.

yes, i'm interested. if the MAIN issue was the control, then the game is too beautiful to leave alone (especially seeing as the ps3 has very, very little to offer over the 360). can be picked up off amazon at $27 and some change - tends to be much cheaper, more reliable, and faster than ebay (always compare with amazon before buying from ebay - and factor in the shipping and the fact that you may get screwed...more than once...)

I'm with a few others here, game wise it still sounds like a rental though I'm glad they FINALLY fixed it otherwise I wouldn't have even wasted my time. For a game that looks that good the last thing I want to worry about it terrible controls and silly level designs. I really thought terrible controls went out the door a long time ago because companies knew what they were doing now days. Ooooh, how wrong I was. *shakes his head sorrowfully*

Yay! It's now 1% less shitty than it was!

That game sucked, period.

The fuckers ever had the nerve to tell everyone they were playing it wrong because they game it a less than stellar review and sent out specialized playing manuals for the reviewers. They forgot to stuff them full of cash though.

I'll give it a rent sometime now and go from there.

the control scheme was the only issue i had with it,the gameplay wasnt revolutionary or anything but if the controls gets fixed i think its easily a 8/10

I actually like the game. Easily a 7+ out of 10. This change will bump the score to an 8+ now. The six-axis controls really aren't that bad at all, just an aquired skill. I replayed earlier levels after completing the game, and I dominated them. There is a learning curve for sure though.

It's nice to see a company admitting they eff'd up and doing something about it.

I know that I get pissed when people dump on Halo threads saying "people still play this?", but... people still play this?

I thought that the game had major design problems beyond the poor controls? If so, then I doubt this will be enough.
