Retailers have started listing a re-release of the immensely popular Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. According to the listings, this will be a special Fifth Anniversary edition, complete with extra goodies for the hardcore fan.
The package is set to include The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition, DVD extras, a map, and a $10 coupon for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. No price or release date has yet been given, though Best Buy lists it at $29.99 for a June timeframe (thanks, Jawmuncher).
What do you reckon? Ready to throw open the gates of Oblivion one more time?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Fuck, this company isn't meeting MY personal needs!
Oblivion biggest flaw right now is it's age.
It hasn't aged all that well now, though obviously the fun is still there if you get past the hump or have the nostalgia going.
You made me lol because it's now 5 years old. Who the fuck are you trying to convince? I'm pretty sure everyone here has made up their mind if they like it or not by this point. Besides, why is it that if a game is just mentioned you need to launch a full scale attack on it? That's such a weird thing to do.
Steam still wins the day if so: http://store.steampowered.com/app/900883/
Let's see: Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, Planescape: Torment, Fallout 1 & 2, Daggerfall, Morrowind, and probably some other Bioware games.
Oblivion is what happens when you take a dump on a past game and then shine up with some pretty graphics. Everything outside of the obvious graphical upgrade is worse off and the combat is just different and not necessarily better.
The only things that I can name besides graphics that improved:
-mana that regenerates over time
-a journal that is organized
-character speed that doesn't make you look like someone on fastforward
I may have to reinstall and try out the Nehrim mod though. It might actually make Oblivion worth something afterall.
Yeah, I'm such a whore.

Date now says June 28th 2011
The setup is time consuming and there are most definitely quirks and omissions which remain but the Oblivion engine does fix and modernize much of what is broken and archaic about Morrowind.
People really shouldn't try to compare BioWare and Bethesda as they are, for the most part, crafting entirely different types of RPG experiences; BioWare creates limited but focused nodes while Bethesda creates open but less focused worlds.
Then again, "Fan Mods Finally Worked Out All the Bugs Edition" probably wasn't the accolade they wanted to give themselves.
But technically since its a rerelease they might not have to.
Also, a wee typo in the title..."Fifth AnniverSAY edition." The missing R must stand for the Rapture that never happened.
Silly religious nutjobs.
