Bethesda to release Oblivion: Fifth Anniversay edition photo

Retailers have started listing a re-release of the immensely popular Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. According to the listings, this will be a special Fifth Anniversary edition, complete with extra goodies for the hardcore fan.

The package is set to include The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition, DVD extras, a map, and a $10 coupon for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. No price or release date has yet been given, though Best Buy lists it at $29.99 for a June timeframe (thanks, Jawmuncher).

What do you reckon? Ready to throw open the gates of Oblivion one more time?

I'd much rather of had Morrowind PS3 HD Classics released. Didn't enjoy Oblivion, at all.

I need to get back to oblivion some day. But IMO it hasn't aged well.

Why bother? Not even that good of a game in most of the ways that really matter. I suppose if you want nothing more than eyecandy with a compass directing everything you do and some really lousy mini-games - or you just want to waste a whole lot of time - then the game is perfect for you.

@drakenguard: elder scrolls kick ass and the replay value is fucking amazing. What rpg would you say blows it away.

Oblivion biggest flaw right now is it's age.
It hasn't aged all that well now, though obviously the fun is still there if you get past the hump or have the nostalgia going.

I don't know, sounds like a great deal, but how many times can a guy keep punching headcrabs and horses in the face before it gets old?

I personally haven't gotten far into it (lord knows why), but it certainly isn't because it's 'dated'. More of the GTA effect than anything; I get hopelessly sidetracked.

I tried to go back to this on PC a week or two ago and just couldn't do it. Played for about 10 minutes longer than it took to get out of the starting dungeon then quit out and fired up Might and Magic 6. How is it a 12 year old rpg that doesn't even have mouse look is so much more fun to play than Oblivion?

@jawmuncher: yah I agree It was one of the best rpgs ever for me at lauch but it really hasn't aged well. But I still will do a playthough as a different race or class and I love that game. I've seriously must have killed 1000 hours or more on that game.

@Drakengard

You made me lol because it's now 5 years old. Who the fuck are you trying to convince? I'm pretty sure everyone here has made up their mind if they like it or not by this point. Besides, why is it that if a game is just mentioned you need to launch a full scale attack on it? That's such a weird thing to do.

I'm guessing that it still doesn't come with all of the deluxe edition content.

Steam still wins the day if so: http://store.steampowered.com/app/900883/

If this came with all of the best mods already installed and working then I would likely pick it up as I can't be bothered anymore to get them all up and running. That said, with the Witcher 2 all of my RPG dreams for the past 10 years or so have come true, so really there's no need for this whatsoever.

@ IV Backstab MC

Let's see: Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, Planescape: Torment, Fallout 1 & 2, Daggerfall, Morrowind, and probably some other Bioware games.

Oblivion is what happens when you take a dump on a past game and then shine up with some pretty graphics. Everything outside of the obvious graphical upgrade is worse off and the combat is just different and not necessarily better.

The only things that I can name besides graphics that improved:

-mana that regenerates over time
-a journal that is organized
-character speed that doesn't make you look like someone on fastforward

I may have to reinstall and try out the Nehrim mod though. It might actually make Oblivion worth something afterall.

@drakenguard: I've played baldurs gate 2 fallout 1 and 2 and daggerfall can't account for the others but I think you are being too harsh. I think oblivion blows away all the games you suggested because of the amazing replay value and depth. There is so much to do in this game and so much to explore. Sure the combat can be wonky sometimes but overall its a great experience. Also it has some incredible mods for it also. Its definitly ont of the best rpgs of not games of this generation.

I'd be tempted, assuming there's anything different in this version (other than DLC) to the original Collector's Edition. I don't care what anyone says, Oblivion on PC is fucking brilliant.

That's why more people should give Morroblivion a shot. http://morroblivion.com/

The setup is time consuming and there are most definitely quirks and omissions which remain but the Oblivion engine does fix and modernize much of what is broken and archaic about Morrowind.

People really shouldn't try to compare BioWare and Bethesda as they are, for the most part, crafting entirely different types of RPG experiences; BioWare creates limited but focused nodes while Bethesda creates open but less focused worlds.

Its always fun to see Bethesda looking for ways to pat themselves on the back.

Then again, "Fan Mods Finally Worked Out All the Bugs Edition" probably wasn't the accolade they wanted to give themselves.

effective 20 bucks for a GOTY Oblivion ain't bad, especially if it comes with other goodies in the box. amazingly i might actually buy this. Also, trophy support please!! I think they'd have to -- it is mandatory for all releases now, isn't it.

Yeah but think about what this release will do to the price of the existing GOTY edition. I can easily see places like Amazon clearing out their stock for $20 if not cheaper and vanilla Oblivion will drop even further.

it's only 30 bucks and besides , when I buy this, I can delete Oblivion from my XBOX 360 hard drive and own a hard disk copy of the game. It would be great if Morrowind came with it because I have the XBOX version but no original XBOX lol

Hmm...I may have to give this a looksee. I keep feeling like I've never given Oblivion a fair shake (I'm more of a Fallout fan, by far).

Also, a wee typo in the title..."Fifth AnniverSAY edition." The missing R must stand for the Rapture that never happened.

Silly religious nutjobs.

If I bought this today, instead of having bought Oblivion near launch for $50, I'd have gotten only slightly less ripped off. I have not bought a single game before huge price cuts because of how burned I felt after buying Oblivion. Game of the year/RPG of the year my ass. Even extensive fan made mods couldn't save this game for me.
