At the VGAs tonight, Bethesda confirmed that the rumors are true -- there's a new Elder Scrolls in the works. It's called Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and it's even got a release date -- November 11, 2011.
No information on platforms or gameplay details just yet, but we'll keep you up to date.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Please use a new non glitchy engine though!
AW YEAH
I only got like 1/2 way through TESIV. I just could not handle that fucking engine. Please for the love of god just use an engine that isn't 10 years old and filled with bugs and soulless character models. Surely you have a dickload of money by now, just license Cryengine 3 or UE3.
Assuming it's a new engine, I am excited.
They're basically the Borg/Dominion to Tamriel's Empire.
Wow, you clearly have no idea how game creation works; you can't just use a game engine like UDK to create a massive open-world like the Elder Scrolls; the engine just isn't designed for it. CryEngine maybe [though Crysis wasn't half as big as Oblivion so I doubt you could use it], but even then the engine isn't all that great - not to mention they'll have been working on this game for years [oblivion took 5 - 6 years]; a long time before Cryengine 3 was announced...
GameByro is used because it can stream large, persistent worlds with decent graphics - there aren't many engine that actually do that...
.... No Gambryo, please, Bethesda?
Though on topic guess its good to see it confirmed. Cant really say too much more since its just a announcement trailer..a really dark one, but the dragon was bad ass.
(On the other hand I'm fan-girling ME3 like crazy, even it's got a story that seems just as plain).
I NEED TO THROW MONEY AT PEOPLE
GIVE ME PREORDERS
GIVE THEM TO ME
They are thought to be which is why I hope/believe this chapter in the ES series will deal with the return of the people of Akavir.

Yeah, next year is going to be crazy. Though I'm kinda hoping it's not just a holiday rush.
You guys remember The Jerall Mountains? Imagine a whole game set in that. For Christ's sake, why didn't they do a setting with some actual diversity?
I'm suprised too. Summerset Isle would have been a better choice (natural boundary, barely spoken about ingame and nearby island that reeks of DLC).
Excitement.
I remember reading about Morrowind for like a year before it came out and getting so so very excited for it. I didn't follow Oblivion much for personal reasons, but God, I can't fucking wait for this shit! Also, I doubt it will be a new engine but I'm sure Gamebryo is going to be seeing almost a complete overhaul, which will practically be a new engine.
ROFL
(I hope people know I am being sarcastic)
