Bethesda opens Battlecry Studios, installs Rich Vogel
Bethesda announced today the opening of a new development studio, Battlecry Studios, in Austin, Texas. Heading up the new team will be Rich Vogel, the former executive producer at BioWare responsible for Star Wars: The Old Republic. The studio is hiring for other positions as well. Their jobs board has listings for a Lead Designer, Art Director and a number of other key jobs (few more critical than that Monetization Designer, I suspect). So they're still in a very early stage, which is probably why they've revealed absolutely bupkis in regards to what the team may or may not be developing. If I had to lay down some cold hard cash, I would bet it will be Online, likely Multiplayer and of a size somewhere around the general vicinity of Massive. Did you know? Legacy Comments (will be imported soon)Well, here's hoping they're not dumb enough to waste tons of money on a traditional MMO for a dead market like the Old Republic. Their first hiring choice certainly bodes well for that. Very interesting, although I really hope this doesn't result in an MMO. It'll be a really, really long time before we get a game from these guys if that's the case. I'd also much rather see Bethesda try to make something different and fresh instead of just a backup plan in trying to cynically take a slice of the MMO pie. There's also the fact I just really don't give a damn about MMOs. I'd really love there to be another game from Bethesda/Zenimax that I'm actually interested in apart from TES. If I wanted to make a successful MMO, the last thing I would do is hire anyone who had anything to do with the Old Republic. Sounds like a free 2 play game to me. EA has its own studio making social games so why wouldant bethesda make some sort of social game.
