Bethesda not ready to commit to Brink release date photo

GameStop stirred the rumor pot recently when it launched a Brink contest, at the same time promoting a September 7 release for the title.

But according to the game's publisher Bethesda Softworks, the Splash Damage first-person shooter still doesn't have a firm release date, outside of its previously announced Fall 2010 launch window.

"Often times retailers will assign a release date for a game that falls within the game’s announced launch window," a Bethesda representative explained to us today. "While we have announced that Brink is due out in Fall 2010, we have yet to announce an official release date for the game. Until we have announced the release date, all other dates can be considered speculative."

So there you have it -- Brink might come out on September 7, as that would fall within the Fall 2010 launch window. But right now, Bethesda's just not ready to commit, so don't go making any plans just yet.

This game is firmly on my radar. I just hope the whole "factions" thing is done well, not just a randomly swapping way to distiguish teams.

I love joining factions. Endwar, MAG etc.

this game is sounding so awesome, but im still a little confused how the missions/world works with other players etc.

are there different maps? is it one large map? how many player in a given area?
but the movement, customization, art direction are all looking great.

ok now i get it , sorta.
2 teams, 8 players each. good/bad guys. if you dont have 8 human players on your team, any others will be AI controlled i believe.
depending on the missions you choose to do(low/high priority?) the other teams missions might change to thwart your team.

this is sounding way better now! i kinda like the low player count. gonna be intense with the SMART movement. hopefully alot of cool chase downs!

@SC: Going by their previous game (Enemy Territory Quake Wars), I've doubt the two factions will just be color swapped. The Strogg and humans in ETQW played very differently. For example the Strogg had a common resource for health and ammo and you could transfer one into the other at any time. The human medics are your standard medics with instant revives and health packs while the Strogg equivalent took a dozen seconds to revive, but can create spawn points from dead human bodies. The vehicles also were nothing alike for the most part.

This is pathetic, they make a game but never put it out, never finish it. Geez, just put the game out already before we all get tired of rehashed images.

They probably don't want to risk coming out against Halo: Reach, the Treyarch Call of Duty (let's face it, World @ War sold really well despite all the pissing and moaning about COD3), the rumored Gears of War 3(if announced for 2010) or Gran Tourismo 5 (if it launches in the late fall) or any of the big hitters.
