Oh PR....
They make the game, and the PS3 architecture is different. Yes, it probably is 'their problem'.
(waiting for conspiracy of under the table money and dealings and general foolishness)
Most likley something very boring and technical that a person without alot of knowledge about it wouldant get. I dont get the problem and even if i had it explained to me i wouldant.
Probably the explanation of how this happens would involve at lot of talk about how game engines work, how PS3’s CELL SPE cores work, and how most game engines are tinkered with to run well on each system. All game codes are tweaked as they are ported…all of them…but in this case there was a big issues the cropped up late in the development.
I do not know but what I suspect is that Bethesda wanted the game code for PC, XB360, and PS3 to be as similar as possible so that as they were tweaking it they would not be tweaking three different versions of the code until the very end of the project. However, probably in the last few months as they were specifically tinkering with the PS3 code they discovered that a large amount of the code simply could not be made to work well on PS3. In simple terms, they put too much effort into the base code and did not account for if it would run well on PS3 until it was too late. To make the game run well on PS3 they would have to CHANGE the base code in significant ways that would have caused the PS3 port to come out…later.
So why can’t it be fixed? My guess, as I said above, is the entire code of the game would have to be significantly changed. That would be more work then would be profitable, so they are not doing it. They are stalling to lessen the impact, and wanting for the issue to blow over.
Exactly, just like they did with Fallout 3 and New Vegas.
I own both on the PS3 and they are a glitchy mess, I should have known better and skipped skyrim...
Though, it really is ZERO excuse. I know enough people in the industry to know that a lot of what MonkeyKing said is pretty spot on, but still, with the length of development, quality of talent, money, AND brand IP behind it, there simply is NO REASON for such a state of mess on the PS3.... First Party or not, it's EMBARRASSING when you see what a company like Naughty Dog can do with the PS3 architecture, but Bethesda can't even get DLC out for one of the biggest games of the year.... Sad. Sad indeed.
No excuse for releasing a multiplatform game that isn't 100% functional on all platforms.
Valve, Rockstar, Irrational, 2K, Guerrilla Games, Treyarch, Vigil, EA, THQ, Naughty Dog, Epic...they all know how to make their games work on the PS3.
So ridiculous. So glad I had the foresight not to bother with Skyrim or Dishonored. SO hilarious that they're offering Dishonored at a discount if you pre order on PSN. It's like...yeah, if I wanted to wipe my as with $54, I'd wipe my ass with $54.
It probably has to do with the Ps3 hardware. Historically the Ps3 has allways had problems with open world games.
That being said, no one forced bethesda to release the game on Ps3. So if you can't program for a console or if the console has a hardware that does not support your game then DON'T RELEASE THE GAME ON THAT CONSOLE.
Once you as adeveloper/Publisher decide out of your free will to release a game on ps3 knowing the hardware the console has then it's your responsibility to deliver a quality product
Personally I blame you, the monster.
Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Fallout: NV all use the gamebryo engine. The Creation engine (that Skyrim uses) is essentially a rebuilt gamebryo engine. Dishonored is an Unreal game, one of the more reliable and engines available which also has a proven track record on the three platforms the game is being released on.
