Bethesda drops Interplay suit, V13 may move forward now photo

In a maneuver which is bound to surprise some people, Bethesda has decided to no longer pursue an appeal in their case against Interplay over claimed breaches of contract in regards to licensing the Fallout franchise. The appeal was for an injunction to prevent Interplay from continuing to use the license which Bethesda bought back in 2007, which would effectively kill the former's development on a Fallout MMO, rumored to be codenamed "Project V13."

According to information Duck and Cover received from an Interplay stockholder, an agreement has been reached between the two parties and Bethesda has dropped its appeal. We can probably expect to hear that Interplay has dropped its countersuit soon.

Hopefully, this means that everything is all cleared up and we might hear something about Project V13 soon, instead of all of this legal crap surrounding it.

Bethesda drops appeal, Fallout MMO moves ahead! [Duck and Cover]

That's actually very surprising. I would figure Bethesda would want in on the MMO...or maybe that is happening.

I get the strangest feeling that we'll soon hear about Interplay and Bethesda coming to an agreement to co-publish any Fallout MMO.

Wait, who's publishing New Vegas, and how does any of this affect that?

ndschroede23,
Bethesda is still publishing it, Obsidian is still developing it. Interplay sold all of the rights to Bethesda but in the agreement, reserved itself the right to make a Fallout MMO, though there were all sorts of funding milestones that had to be reached that if they didn't meet, the rights would revert to Bethesda.

I wouldn't worry about this effecting either New Vegas or whatever pre-production work is likely happening for Fallout 4.

I don't know. This whole Fallout MMO sounds to me like the new Duke Nukem 4ever. Interplay hasn't published anything since 2004, except for a few remakes and compilations, so I'm guessing they are just hoping for a quick buck from investors to keep floating.

Besides, all the people that made the original games have long left, what makes you guys think this will be any good?

Interesting. I honestly didn't expect that turn of events.

Purely because I have a strong attachment to the property and because I'm a believer in the potential of the Fallout universe, I'll give them a chance.

Though it has to be said, I gave Star Trek Online a chance too when I really shouldn't have, so perhaps I'm not the best barometer for MMOs.

I want this MMO to happen.

Who knows if it ever will.

Would be neat though.

Obviously something went down in the back room. Interplay was probably refusing to show progress on the game, and finally did. Now Bethesda either saw that it was almost ready and gave up, or they say it was never going to be finished, and will just come back later to pick at Interplay's rotting carcass.

Kotaku is reporting that the legal battles are continuing.....
'Not so says Bethesda's Pete Hines. "That is still ongoing and has not been resolved. It is a minor procedural thing that took place, not a dropping of the lawsuit." '

Yea I'm afraid the fallout games I came to love back in the day are gone forever. Same with black isle studios. It's just the way things are that all the people whoade those games great have left and now we're left with people doing their best to pick up a very large torch.

So then, I guess Zenimax Online isn't working on a Fallout MMO.... Does that mean it is a TES MMO then?

It really really feels like Bethesda's suits were flaunting huge cocks at Interplay. I wouldn't be surprised if Interplay had to change the name of their MMO somewhat, even though they were in the right because they stipulated in the sale of the license that they could still deliver an MMO based on it.

Bethesda stated in the license agreement that Interplay did not have the right to sell sub licensing rights. Interplay did so anyways (along with alot of other broken terms) and in doing so it says in the contract that all rights to anything fallout automaticaly forfeit to Bethesda. Interplay is in the wrong on a legal level, without breaking the rules, they would not have reached the 2 year deadline. ağrı tedavisi agrı tedavisi merdiven merdiven çelik kasa çelik kasa bina kapısı bina kapısı kasa taşıma kasa taşıma
