If you're excited about the upcoming Star Wars: The Old Republic, you may have a chance to get your hands on the MMO early -- Shacknews is reporting that beta signups are now open. The process sounds fairly standard: fill out your information, upload a DxDiag file, and sit around and wait hoping that you're chosen to participate.
LucasArts has said that there will be a limited amount of people accepted (big surprise), and that the earlier you sign up, the better your chances are of being chosen. In order to register, you need to make an account at the website and select 'pre-release testing option' from the account page.
What are you waiting for? Go sign up here!

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

Check out my argument for MMO subscriptions around comment 12. If this game wants to be taken seriously, it better have a fee!

On the other hand, it's the only MMO I've been waiting for and god dammit, I wanna check it out and.. oh yeah, help fix bugs. Decisions, decisions.
The system Requirements are not going to be very hardcore. It uses the Hero Engine and judging from the screenshots, it won't be much. I'm sure bioware will want to get this onto as many computers as possible.
I would assume mid-low range. Above World of Warcraft, but not much higher would be my guess.
Hate MMOs.
Sad Legend, indeed.
You know, it's funny you mention Champions of all games. I too was in the Beta for that game. I played it and enjoyed it, but the closer and closer it got to launch, the less and less excited I became. So, I guess what I'm saying is, I can see exactly where you're coming from with that.
I remember when this game was first announced there was a plethora of people like you that couldn't WAIT to tell people your feelings on MMO's. But, as the game has progressed your breed has diminished substantially. Now more and more people are actually willing to give the game a chance instead of just assuming you wouldn't like it, just because you don't like WoW.
MMO is a very broad term. How can you possibly hate the idea of playing with many other people online? That's like somebody coming here and saying, "OH man! I hate single player games and just NEED to let everybody know about it!"
It's silly, needless to say.
If I don't get into BETA this isn't going to be a Day One purchase for sure. I only buy MMO's after I get a trial. It doesn't matter how bad I want to play this game.

I'm curious as to why this is. I'm sure you have a reason, just wondering what it would possibly be. I've never heard of an MMO that doesn't give you a month of free play.. so I don't see how it's any more of a risk then any other game on the market that you don't get to try first.
Also, I don't even think Ganjookie was being serious. There's absolutely nothing about SWG that is anything like SW:TOR that I can tell. That's pretty obvious, though.
The combat seems familiar as a post CU game at least from the couple of trailers I saw. Of course it could be similar to most MMOS now-a-days. Of course I only really did space combat after I left game pre-CU and then came back after I got hired on.
You SWG GMs where always cool when I had to wander on over from the CS/Tech area!
A free 30 days w/ purchase is different then a 14 day (or something close to this) trial.
I was being serious about the combat as well. The trooper just kinda sat there with his gun and used some moves. SWG was like that and you could also crouch or go prone. What did you see that was radically different?
No offense intended, it just looked similar to me. I don't know how it could be drastically different really, shooting a gun is shooting a gun, in a turn based game. If they moved it to an FPS style of course that's different or maybe a hybrid of sorts.
I'd like to play a demo or trial as well without laying down my $49.99-59.99 on it first.
Yes, a trial and the first 30 days being free are different, I'm not disagreeing with that. But, my question for him was.. what about it makes it anymore of a risk then buying any single player game on the market? Why be afraid to put down $50 for an MMO but you'd be totally fine with putting down $50 on day one for a single player game that may or may not suck.
Gotcha. I would say that a MMO vs a single player game has the potential to have many more hours invested in it. I personally find it harder to leave an MMO for a few days than a single player, because so much can happen online, and my single player game doesn't change until I come back.. but that's me :D
FACK!
Yep.. still down.
Good luck.
Fuck Lucasarts.
I guess I've got to thank them though, I have too many monthly fees as it is without having to worry about yet another. My thanks to the inept web "developers". The beta may end up being fun but in the long run I'd rather have car insurance, and a car, and something other than ramen for dinner..
