Crush 40, known by the more familiar name of Those Wankers That Ruined Sonic The Hedgehog Soundtracks For Everybody, is coming out with a "best of" compilation CD, full of their signature brand of sentimental bright-eyed faux-rock pop.
The Best of Crush 40: Super Sonic Songsis scheduled for a November 18 release. I know you've all just wet yourselves with excitement at this news, so I'll leave it at that. Oh, and let me just add that I really hope that song about having seven rings in hand is on it. That was a classic to rival anything Elton John's ever done.
Jim Sterling serves as reviews editor for Destructoid.com, head of the Podtoid podcast, and produces a number of news stories, original features, one-of-a-kind videos. Meet the rest of the team
LIVE AND LEEeeeeeEEEAAAAAAAAARN YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH
just because they're not a "good" band doesn't mean they can't be enjoyed. Try playing crazy taxi without offspring - doesn't feel right does it? not as fun is it?
Ah crap you knew of the remix's existance. Excuse my idiocy then.
@Gelatin - luckily no, Crush 40 is not responsible for that rap music. I don't know who is but I agree with you on that part. Crush 40 usually doesn't do much beyond Sonic's main theme, but they've been kinda quite lately (besides sonic and the black Knight anyway)
If they put out a Crush 40 Track Pack for Rock Band or Guitar Hero, I'd buy it just for the nostalgia.
Put Live & Learn, Open Your Heart, and What I'm Made Of in there, and then all of a sudden I'm 11 years old again. That experience would be worth a few bucks.
3 Words.
Live and Learn.
Can I get a "Hell Yeah!"?
Also, they didn't do "Seven Rings in Hand"
In reality, they did the majority of GOOD Sonic music.
@Gelatin Abomination
Nope, they didn't do that one either.
I don't know about there more recent stuff, but you lose all credibility if you even insinuate Live and Learn City Escape or hell any of there songs from SA1 and 2 are bad.
Actually you might be the first person ever to say that.
Dude Crush 40 dominates (admittedly in a throwback 80's rock kinda way)! I was honestly listening to them earlier today. Their stuff from SA2, Heroes, Shadow, etc. is always a blast.
In a related bit of Sonic music talk, A Ghost's Pumpkin Soup (from SA2) gets stuck in my head far to often.
There's an orchestral version of that song that floats around. I always imagine an epic Sonic remake with a compelling plot and playing a remade Mystic Cave to that song.
Reading comprehension isn't your strong point I take it?
He's not comparing the bands he's comparing the game experience coupled with the music. Lets try a simpler example: Try playing Tony hawk without ANY of the music. It doesn't feel the same.
Live and Learn and Open Your Heart aren't bad, everything else sucks though. Especially that shitty industrial-type song they did for Shadow... *shudder*
You know, it's kind of funny. Jim seemed to think that people hated this band, but the feedback seen is this comment section has been 99% positive. But he, like anyone else, has the right to not like good music, right?
I'm with Jon B in that I love Crush 40 in a cheesy way. The soundtracks from the Genesis games were the best though. Well actually, depends on the day since I really, really love Hideki Naganuma's work on Sonic Rush. Ok just I love his work in general. I may pick this up if I see it in stores.
Wankers? Crush40 is a great band, the soundtracks on the new Sonic games is the best part, they should have some tracks on Guitar Hero or Rock Band and Jun Senoue is simple awesome
I'm glad to see most everyone in the comments disagrees with you, Jim.
Crush 40 are awesome and, as said before, probably the only good thing about the newest Sonic games.
@Zero Mayhem: Eh? Crush 40 had nothing to do with Rush or Unleashed.
Despite Unleashed's short comings (the Sonic levels were really fun though), the music in that game was really good. It was the most retro feeling soundtrack since Sonic 3D Blast for the Saturn.
As for my opinions on Crush 40, they're alright. They've made some cheesy songs but thinking about those songs makes me think of how fun Sonic Adventure was.
Fuck YES! This is all such god-awful music, you just have to listen to it. I should note that on Sonic's stage in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, I've set it so that only those kind of songs will come up. So EXTREME!
Kinda like how everyone these days tries to make Sonic Adventure out to "always have been" a shit game in retrospect when it was really fucking awesome at launch. It's just pretty much the in thing to do to hate those games at this point.
But yeah, I thought SA2 was pretty weak, but the soundtrack rocked. In fact, the soundtracks still consistently pretty much ooze cheesy charm despite the games themselves having headed decidedly south in quality.
I'd buy this, as in my opinion Crush 40's music is one of the consistently good things about the Sonic series; Live And Learn was amazing, as was their version of His World.

Basically.
SA 2 still sits as #2 on my all-time favorite Sonic list. Ain't nothing in there not awesome.
However Crush 40 took a tackle at remixing it, so there is still hope!

Are you seriously comparing Crush 40 and The Offspring?
Actually you might be the first person ever to say that.
But hum a few bars of emerald hill zone, or casino night, or starlight zone, or mystic cave and I'd be right there with you. Shit is classic. Amazing.
Holy crap, mystic cave zone. Fuck.
In a related bit of Sonic music talk, A Ghost's Pumpkin Soup (from SA2) gets stuck in my head far to often.
Oh God I love Mystic Cave Zone.
There's an orchestral version of that song that floats around. I always imagine an epic Sonic remake with a compelling plot and playing a remade Mystic Cave to that song.

Sonic Heroes though, meh. I blame the sound director or whoever it was that told them the music needed to be about THE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP!!!!!
*plays the track from Sandopolis Zone*
Crush 40 are awesome and, as said before, probably the only good thing about the newest Sonic games.
And "Live and Learn" Kicks MAYOR ASSES!!
I never noticed that, but they do kind of sound like that! Heh, now I'll picture the Power Ranger anytime I listen to them.

And possibly a cover of Super Sonic Racing.....
But yeah, I thought SA2 was pretty weak, but the soundtrack rocked. In fact, the soundtracks still consistently pretty much ooze cheesy charm despite the games themselves having headed decidedly south in quality.
