Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

Disgaea 3's extended trailer is just as over-the-top as the game is supposed to be. This Japanese trailer combines 5 minutes of attack-heavy game footage, wacky song sing-a-longs, and the best announcer voice I've ever heard in my life.

We've been keeping our eye out for news on the Nippon Ichi PS3 strategy RPG slated to hit Japanese shelves in early 2008. We've seen plenty of pictures and even a trailer, but getting to really see the extent of the over-the-top attacks is what will sell this game.

Being a next-gen SRPG should be enough to sell it to fans of the genre, but when they throw around things like 9,999 levels and "total damage 436,925,960," nerdy gamers' heads start spinning. Add in the ability to throw characters and pieces of their environments, build towers of characters, and bring celestial bodies crashing down on enemies, and my preorder for Disgaea 3 is already in.

[Thanks, Madninja]

looks like loads of fun. towards the middle i was thinking it would be cool if they brought the moon down and crushed someone as an attack...and they did! probably never be localized, or not for a few years.

This looks mental, in the best possible way. I'm beginning to think learning Japanese would be time well spent for me.

I like strategy games but I could never get into this, it's just too "zany". That's the best way I can put it. How about a REAL sequel to Final Fantasy Tactics? Square seems incapable of making anything that interests me anymore.

I might just get it for the Wild ARMS-esq music. The first one wasn't very user friendly and I never played the second one, so hopefully this one might not be so confusing.

Why is this on PS3 when it looks exactly like the PS2 editions? Can't they just put it on PS2 to gain a wider audience?

I've been wanting to play this series of games for a long time... but I don't have a PS2 anymore... and I don't have a PS3 either... so I've just been reading the Manga.

This game looks amazing. This game makes me want to buy a Japanese PS3 and import this game as soon as it comes out.

Yea. Still not getting why it's for the PS3... No doubt Sony's attempt to ween us away from the PS2.

You don't need a Japanese PS3 to play Japanese games. PS3s are region free so you won't have to worry about where you buy your system.

They had better start coming out with games for PS3 that are good if they ever want people to stop playing PS2. This game will come to the US. If we got a re-release of Disgaea 1 (for PSP), odds are Nippon Ichi thinks the US is a good market for the series.

Not only has rock band made me desire a PS3 (boo to delays on PS2 version), but this game is almost pushing me over the limit. Now if only I had some money; or mad skills at winning online contests.

This game will be localized as quickly as the first 2 were.. which was within the same year.

@ShadowXOR

You DO realize that Squeenix doesn't do the Disgaea series, right?

Somehow, i'm getting this even though I have no PS3 yet. It's just how it must be.

which reminds me, I have to somehow finish the first and second one. That game requires you to forget every other game you are possibly playing and right now, that's something I just can't do.

I got about halfway into the first one before it started feeling like work. Ironically, I maxed out the clock on Final Fantasy Tactics a couple of days ago, and THEN completed it, and now I'm pondering going into the Deeplight Dungeon.

I should pick it up again sometime.

Screw MGS4, this is my killer app for the PS3. I will buy a PS3 to play a new Disgaea, hands down.

...okay I love MGS and cant wait for it, but I am more excited for Disgaea 3 then MGS4

@Genki-JAM:

I'm definitely well aware of that, I just phrased my comment strangely. I brought up Tactics because I find it to be a much better game and it never got a proper sequel (the GBA one wasn't very good in my opinion).

And there you have my reason for buying a PS3. Pardon me while I change my soiled undergarments.

Anyways, it looks like they went absolutely berserk with the team attacks and the attack animations. Why are they advertising the 9999 levels now? Hasn't this always been a mainstay of the Disgaea games?

Oh god yeah, if you want strategy with hardcore number chasing (enemies in past iterations could have over 40 million hit points and stats into the millions) then Disgaea is your game. The amount of things you can level up and tweak in that game is insane, especially if you want to tackle everything in the game. My roommate put retarded amounts of time into both PS2 games.

Also, what is it with all the cunts confusing Nippon Ichi with Atlas today?
