As part of some kind crazy limited supply promotion, Best Buy will be dishing out “exclusive bonus tracks” for Guitar Hero III for anyone willing to order Metallica’s upcoming CD, Death Magnetic. It isn’t clear as to what tracks can be downloaded via Best Buy’s instructions, but one would assume that a few Metallica tracks would be included with the package.
Best Buy didn’t mention having to actually listen to the CD or taking it out of the wrapper, which should take some of the pain out of the purchase. After listening to St. Anger and Ulrich’s sick-cat-snare drum for several minutes, I’m afraid that I haven’t been able to take Metallica seriously. It has scarred me for life.
The offer only stands for the Xbox 360 version of the game, so PlayStation 3 and Wii owners need not apply. Although, it’s not like Wii owners have any choice in the matter. At least the Wii remote in the guitar thing is cool, right?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
in all seriousness I liked(not loved liked) 'the day that never comes'
When did it become the norm to collective hate on Metallica? I'm revoking everyone's Metal card.
If I ever wanted to listen to metal, I'm sure I could find something much more brutal.
My grandma's more brootal than Metallica is now.
That's a big fail for everybody else because they don't share your personal taste in music.
Be serious.
such fanboys. Just because we don't like metallica doesn't mean that you can't.
I rock out to European power metal now. Vive le Kamelot and Hammerfall!
Honestly, I really can't get over how horrible St. Anger was. I used to be a HUGE Metallica fan, but I was badly burnt by that album. [/i]
My thoughts exactly. I was fucking stoked for St Anger, bought it, took it home, listened to it.... Listened to it again (maybe its like prog rock, better the second time?)... Ugh, it was bleh where it wasn't meh, and meh where it wasn't crap.
Funny relation to videogames here, I ripped St Anger to my xbox's HD. At first is was marginally better than listening to Tony Hawk 3(?)'s default sound track, but by the time I was done with that game, I couldn't even listen to the disc again.
OTOH, I liked S&M, so, take what I say with a grain of salt.
Since they cut their hair and started putting out shitty music.

You all know of you found out they were about to start a gig down your road, you'd all wet your pants and run down there.
Oh, it's so cool to hate them right..... hmmmm, riiiight.
New stuff sounds good to me
Just ordered gears 2, spunked my pants!
Wow, Dave must've wrote a lot of material in those 2 years before Kill Em All huh?
The Black Album was ok. I enjoy it, but honestly I hate how it was a change from Thrash, to a more mainstream half-Thrash sound. Again, I like the Black Album, but what brings it down for me is that it was the beginning of the end. After the black album, everything was atrocious. Garage Inc was awesome, but it's a covers album. They haven't made any good songs of their own since the Black Album. Fuel was ok, as was No Leaf Clover. Their live shows are also going downhill. As years go by they keep losing their intensity. YouTube a video of them playing Seek and Destroy in this decade and compare it to one of them in the 80s. They should've quit after S&M. As for excitement, have you met anyone that's said anything different? 90% (at least) of Metallica fans say the exact same thing I'm saying. Metallica faded away a decade ago, they just refuse to completely die out. The only excitement I've heard from their new album are people that are morbidly curious to how much it will suck.
Bands that have lasted long: Aerosmith, Rolling Stones, KISS, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Ozzy's solo act, Anthrax, Slayer. Those are the ones I can name other than Metallica. Now with all these that I mentioned, some have gone strong (releasing mostly good albums, and little crappy ones), so I'd say it would be fair to put them alongside Metallica.
I love Metallica, but damn... Cliff Burton has been rolling around in his grave for quite a few years now.
