GameStop has Game Informer, and soon it shall be rivaled by Best Buy and its own gaming rag, @Gamer. Dubbed the "official games magazine of Best Buy", @Gamer is to be helmed by reputed writer Andy Eddy and published by Future US.
@Gamer is due to launch in the last week of June. So far, actual content and style has not been revealed, although I'm sure the combination of late news and sneaky exclusives that allow magazines to compete with the Internet shall appear in full force.
Jokes aside (and I am joking), it's pretty interesting to see Best Buy going toe-to-toe with GameStop like this. It's also further evidence that print isn't "dead" as some people erroneously and ignorantly claim. Magazines are still going pretty strong around the world and carry a certain prestige, so it's certainly not strange to see another mag hit the shelves. That said, I'm very curious to see how well this particular one sells, especially compared to Game Informer.
