Beneath a Steel Sky - Remastered hits iPhone this Friday photo

This really is one of those games you should feel guilty for not playing.

Not only does the cyberpunk-themed point-and-click adventure game Beneath A Steel Sky take place in a dystopian Australia like one of my favorite movies ever, The Road Warrior, it's also a damned fine game to boot.

Although BASS is available for free on PC, the upcoming iPhone version that we've mentioned before will not be. With new artwork from Dave Gibbons, a touch-inspired interface, a new hint system (so long, GameFAQs!), and digitally remastered art and sound, it'll probably be worth the $4.99 asking price.

Plus, it's portable. It's so weird to me that so many great adventure games are seeing new life on the iPhone, but hey, that's not a complaint.

Seriously cannot wait. I am just astounded that the rest of the great adventure games of the 90s are not available yet. *Stares at LucasArts*

...does it still have the horribly voiced intro, or has that been redone too?

There is NO excuse for not having played this one, especially as it's available on PC for free from GOG.

My favorite dystopian Australia ever is in Tank Girl... but thinking back it is mostly ripped from Road Warrior... but at any rate, @Article: YES YES YESSS~!

Please tell me they reworked the controls for this game and didn't shoehorn it like in every other adventure adaption for the iPhone...

Even Monkey Island plays kinda badly on the iPhone! D:

PS: If you know your iPhone games, you know this game will drop to half price or 99c at some moment in the future... every other game has!

Isn't SCUMMVM on the iPhone? Because if it is, buying this automatically makes you stupid.

@Xhumation - Dave Gibbons did the art for the original Beneath a Steel Sky as well. Check it out one way or another.

@acidspunk - Buying this means that more point and click games may be ported, remade, re-released in the future, on whatever platform. Just because you have access to scummvm and a torrent site does not mean you shouldn't buy Monkey Island SE. I wanna play Monkey Island 2 SE dammit! And Day of the Tentacle SE, Full Throttle SE, Sam and Max Hit the Road SE....

@illuminatatus - Beneath a Steel Sky is freeware. So if you get SCUMMVM and the pc version of the game there's no need to pirate anything. And no need to buy it either. This port is completely unnecessary. Then again, I don't even have an iPhone and it is your money.

@acidspunk the only way to get SCUMMVM on iphone is either by jailbreaking your iphone, or making a build yourself, which you have to be a member of the developers club, a $100/year membership fee. I did the latter and put BOSS on it, and it plays pretty horribly (crashes, hard to click items, difficult interface, etc.). Overall, it sounds like this one will be much better tailored to playing on the iPhone. That and illuminatatus is right, more money toward adventure games, even old ones, is money toward a good cause.

I still can't get out of the first room. I've played the game on-and-off for 4 years.

Unforunately this is one game that's unplayable in Scumm on the iphone (I just can't make the timed puzzles), hopefully the new interface helps here.

This will be a day 1 purchase for me..
