Ben Heck has done it again! Ben as you may know is a master at taking videogame consoles and transforming them into portable devices. He's taken Super Nintendos, N64s, PS1s, and a whole mess of others and turned them into portable and awesome looking machines. Some of his more recent mods have involved taking the Wii and the Xbox 360 and turning them into laptops. Ben revealed his PlayStation 3 laptop this past week and has completed the current generation laptop mods. The PlayStation 3 laptop was commissioned by the crew at Engadget and will actually be going up for charity auction very soon. The project took about 14 months on and off making this Ben's longest project to date. As for the specs: - Original backwards compatible 60GB model
- 17-inch LCD HDTV screen: 720p
- HDMI-DVI connection (same as last Xbox 360 laptop)
- Built-in keyboard, USB ports, stereo speakers, headphone jack
- Size: 17 x 13.75 x 3-inches
- Weight: 16 pounds!

also why hdmi to dvi? theres a ton of hdmi monitors out on the market now. unless its a port i don't see on the laptop it self.
16 pounds is pretty heavy for a laptop, if I do say so myself.

But seriously, Ben Heck is awesome. I wish I had those mad skillz. I wonder if any of the 360 projects he's done have ever Red Ringed, or if he managed to improve on MS's mistakes. Oh well. So amazing.
Also, watching the video on Engadget allows you to see an all around view of it. It's much cooler looking in the video. He put all kinds of sexy chrome on that beyatch.
This is cool, but 16lbs is pretty heavy for a laptop. I don't see this as "to mobile"

It's more mobile than carrying the PS3, assorted cords, and whatever else is attached, and comes with its own monitor.
While it is most certainly awesome, I don't think I would find much opportunity to use it. I suppose it'd be good for hotel rooms that only have a coaxial connection you have need to get an excavation permit to locate.

The PS3 itself only weighs 11 pounds, so that screen and such must be pretty heavy! Still, that is bad ass.

Cool, but non-practical. But, who cares about practicality?
I wonder if he uses a prototyping machine? The cases he uses for his custom work all seem to have that same "layered" look about them.
