Bellevue getting a $4 million 'game room' photo

Game room? Is that what people want to call arcade nowadays?

Anyway, the $4 million game room called Power Play is opening up this Thursday in Bellevue, Washington. The place will be 18,000 square feet and can fit about 200 people at a time. The place will be open to all ages before 10PM and to ages 21 and up after 10PM.

There will be over 150 arcade games including Sega Outrun 2 Super Deluxe, a big deal as there are only 16 of these in the world. Even better: There will be a "Laser Chamber" room where people will have to run through and avoid breaking the laser beams. Every spy movie has this and you know you've always wanted to try your luck at this!

The Seattle Convention Center, where PAX takes place every year, is about a half-hour away from Bellevue. I'm thinking we're going to be coming to Seattle a few days in advance so we can give this new arcade a proper run through next year.

There's a place down in Gatlinburg, TN that looks like a castle that has a mirror maze, pirate mini golf, and one of these laser rooms. Pretty fun, as it does look just like in the movies, but hard if you aren't super flexible.

Well damn I used to live right next to Bellevue... though looking a couple articles deep, it actually looks like they're putting a bunch of shitty barcade and sports games in there, so nevermind, this thing sucks.

Wow, an arcade being OPENED, not closed?!? There's something you don't read everyday.

They have that Outrun 2 SP Super Deluxe setup at the Gameworks here in Phoenix (God, I love you, Sega). It's incredibly badass.

Did they figure out the problem with electrical power consumption? Cause running all those arcade units all day long must be a bitch. Maybe they're powered by the Atom processor...

Half an hour? You guys drive slow. Then again, getting across that bridge...anyway, it looks like Lincoln Square is shaping up. I'm going to check it out late this week on my lunch break. It's just about a mile away.

I think wedge is spot on. It read like all they had was driving games and bar trivia.

Sounds like gameworks on steroids minus all the good games :/

I have a Power Play in my town. It's not so great.

I forgot to mention:

Everything there is extremely overpriced, and the way they get away with it is by using proprietary cards that act like credit cards you can only use at Power Play, so it doesn't seem like you spend as much because it's all in points rather than dollars.

Had to do a doubletake. I grew up in Bellevue, IA. I was like, what the fuck?

Bu-bu-but-but there's only 16 of those OutRuns. Surely that is worth SOMETHING beyond a usual arcade. And lasers!

Everyone knows lasers are what the people want.

Wait, we already have a GameWorks in Seattle. And who really goes there anymore? Anyone?

So you're saying that the cost to play games there on a regular basis could eventually cost you billions upon billions of quarters?

I'm not suggesting it's true, only that it's possible.

Outrun SP Deluxe out at Gameworks in Ontario, CA. It's fun playing it with a co-pilot/driver.

Man..how did I not hear about this. I work in an office building around SE 8th St, about a mile from Lincoln Square (NE 8th and Bellevue Way), and live about 3 miles away in Factoria. I will definitely have to check this out this weekend. Lincoln Square has a very impressive movie theater and bowling alley already, so an uber arcade completes the trifecta.

The only time I played an OutRun 2 SDX cab was at the GameWorks in Vegas. Totally awesome.

And they apparently have a 4-player H2Overdrive setup according to Arcade Heroes. I still haven't seen one where I live (Palm Beach County, FL)...

Before you guys come early before PAX to check the place out, take a look at the review I wrote of the place.

It may/may not be worth your time checking out.
