Are you a PC gamer? Begging to know what the minimum and recommended specifications are for the PC version of Duke Nukem Forever? Oh wow, really? That's perfect. We've got them!
My approach to PC gaming is to just run the game. If it works, great. If it doesn't, I play DOOM 2 again. It's a fantastic system that has served me well for many months. Those of you who like to plan ahead, however, make sure you check out the specs!

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I could tell you the obvious but ure not listening are you?
( I'll give you a clue......15 )
Then you are scum, like me!
Well thats what you are to some pc gamers.
...that aside, those specs are suprisingly low, breaking the trend of an 8800GT being the lowest required card. So it goes without saying I'll be rocking this on Max'd settings, 1080p, 8xAA. Hell I could probably run 4 copies at once.
I wonder if the PC version will have less censoring than consoles.
Indeed, it is once again the peasantry making the law of the land.
my Radeon HD6870 would probably rape this game in full HD.
FUCKING BUY THEM.
Clearly publishers and developers are catering to the bigger audience.
Pirating actually affects consoles as much as PCs, if not more. Consoles just have a larger audience so it's less noticable in the end.
Another issue is that most sales data doesn't account for dowload sales (ie Steam, Direct2Drive), which is where the vast majority of PC gamers buy their games now.
A bigger threat to gaming than piracy is video game trade-ins. It's on a far larger scale and greater negative impact than piracy. That's why there has been such a large increase in DLC and online passes. Developers and publisher have to make up lost profit somehow. As it so happens, you can't trade in PC games anymore.
Also does the fact Jim posted this magically invite a bunch of stupid trolling?
Clearly sales of PC games aren't enough to make it the lead development platform over consoles. Clearly the idea of selling a game on Xbox360/PS3 is more alluring then selling it on PC.
Clearly, more games are successful on consoles. Sure, you've got your WoW and games of it's type, but otherwise you're better off focusing on consoles these days.
Oh, and let's not forget the astronomical dev costs if games were all designed to take full advantage of PCs. You guys clearly don't get it.
And like Jim says, used games help people buy new games. Definitely true. I don't know a single person who doesn't trade in old games for new ones, except the rich people in my family of course.
It used to be that if you owned a PC you knew every last detail about its innards and its compatibility. Now, in an age of user-friendly products, people don't understand how their "magic boxes" work anymore. People expect ten year old PCs to run modern releases.
A lack of effort on the consumers part and a general "PCs aren't cool" campaign by Apple has led to the decline of PC gaming.
However, in the past year or two PC has seen a rise in use as a gaming platform because gamers want the "next gen" and PCs are the only platform offering it right now. I think that PCs will continue to make a comeback as people grow more familiar with them again.
I think you're forgetting something. To get a PC that's really worth having spec-wise over consoles, you need a much greater investment of time and money. Simply put, consoles are much more accessible for people who don't want to fuck around with incompatibilities and forum scouring for Direct X crashes. Despite being a PC-oriented gamer myself, I truly can't blame them.
The problem is that people don't shop around for PCs so everybody thinks they're expensive. People are too foused of getting an "offical gaming PC" which are all ripoffs.
You could get a top of the line PC with all the newest tech for about $800. That would be about two to three times more powerful than a PS3 or 360.
I have not had a single issue gaming on my current PC. I have 96 games on Steam and none of them have crashed on me. I've had a few glitches, but I've had the same experince with my PS3. Again, it's an issue of people not understanding their PC's compatibility.
There's too much misinformation about PCs, some of it intentional.
what e load of crap.
"The real reason why consoles do so well is because most casual gamers aren't knowledgeable enough to get games running on a PC."
no, because you only have to spend 300$ on a system for 6-7 years.
"A lack of effort on the consumers part and a general "PCs aren't cool" campaign by Apple has led to the decline of PC gaming. "
please stop, just stop.
"You could get a top of the line PC with all the newest tech for about $800. That would be about two to three times more powerful than a PS3 or 360. "
yeah and 95% of those pc games are on 250$ consoles that still look just as good.
i spend over nearly 800$ on my new pc. it took me 4 weeks to choose entire configuration, gather all parts, build it and optimize it. my last PC cost 700$ in 2005 when in picked it up and it was useless for most new games in late 2007.
i pick up game for 360 and i play it instantly. i pick up game for PC and i spend about an hour in game settings and optimizing graphic card settings(since same settings on it give different results in each game on my PC). i have like 10 pages of my graphic card settings for all my games on my desk.
so, i've spend 1500$ on gaming PC in 6 years and 300$ i've spend on xbox 360.
it's a fairly good computer, but not a mainline gaming computer
Consoles have all the same issues that PCs do, including becoming outdated. I'm sure that some people just bought Wiis, only to have the price drop and have Project Cafe announced. Those people are probably pretty pissed off. I'm sure that similar things will happen for new PS3 and 360 buyers.
The advantage of buying a PC with entirely new tech is that if it does become outdated, you can always upgrade the RAM or change out the graphics card. Granted there are eventual limitations, but you can generally upgrade for little money.
I have had my current PC for two years. I haven't upgraded anything. There is not a PC game that I cannot play. I don't have to spend any time with settings to get a game to run. Everything works automatically. I buy my games from Steam, download them, and they run. That's it. It probably takes me less time to download a game on Steam than it does for me to go to the mall and buy it.
It sounds like you just had a bad experience.
