Behold the face of idiocy: Swedish gamers already camping for GTA IV [Updated] photo

I guess a few Swedish gamers didn't get the memo that you can actually pre-order games in this dazzling 21st century. The above image is one of several insane Swedes who are actually camping outside a store for Grand Theft Auto IV -- damn near two and a half weeks before it even arrives. In comparison I could head into town and most likely pick up two copies on launch day.

Maybe there's some videogame shortage I didn't hear about in Sweden, but this borders on the slightly braindamaged as far as I am concerned. I don't know what's sadder, that these people feel the need to spend over two weeks outside for a videogame, or that they have so little going on in their lives that two weeks are simply that disposable.

I guess this is what hype does to the human psyche. I can understand camping out a few days for a launch console -- barely -- but over two weeks for a continually pressed disc? That, my friends, is ridiculous. You can see more pictures of the insanity at the source -- a Swedish retailer that has captured these crazy people on camera.

Oh well. They're happy ... I guess. They really shouldn't be, though.

[Update: Apparently the first ten Swedes to buy GTA IV win prizes like consoles and things, which is why they have taken half a month out of living to camp there. Whatever. I still think it's pretty stupid and have filed it under the "win at contest, lose at life" category. Seriously, how can you take two and half weeks out of life for a console? Maybe there just isn't much to do in Sweden]

A last minute delay in Sweden a week into their camp out would make my day.

I would love when they enter the store and the teller would say "sorry, every copy we've got are for people who pre-order".

seriously...this better be a joke or something. Cause I seriously can't see why i'd want to wait 2 weeks for a game I'll be able to find anywhere on launch.

Speaking as a half Dane (see? I qualify to be a guest on the Podcastle :p), I can say with certainty that Sweden is a shameful country that needs to be looked down upon. Plus they can't handle their liquor very well. :p

The night before the launch, steal a dead body from a morgue and throw it through the front window. The eventual police investigation will take days, ruining their chances of getting this game (or at any other store because they wont have any other preorders!)

what a great reason to make a post...people wasting their own time. you are kidding right? how is it any better to trash people for camping out if thats what they want to do. people spend hours upon hours wasting their own time playing video games which in most quarters is looked upon in scorn. if the dude wants to camp out, let him do so without a photoshop picture to ridicule him. by all measures we could photoshop some wanker sitting in a couch for hours playing cod4 and superimpose stupid fool over the picture. get back to posting real news, not bashing fellow gamers.

Preordering a game is one order of dumb. Turning up for a midnight launch is the next order. *Camping* for a game is just plain retarded.

Jeez, it's just a game. It will be *everywhere* for a long time to come. I can understand why hype might drive people to preorder, but frankly if the game is that awesome, it wouldn't kill people to wait a few days for the reviews to say as much rather than blindly trusting the hype.

Meh, maybe they had 2 weeks to kill and were planning to go camping anyway and just decided to do it in front of a game store rather than, like, in a forest or something. Camping in front of a store is like camping in the woods, right?

I will explain for you guys if nobody yet has, first he is dressed like the guy from GTA IV cause he probably is camping near Webhallen whom are doing a contest which goes like this if you look like a russian best they will let you test the game for 2hours on april 27th 8am, the second he started camping probably a bit early but it's because there will be two lines, the first 10 in each line can get the PS3 Bundle which is Ps3 40GB and GTA IV for less than 1$ ( 1 SEK ) and the other line can get the same thing expect they get Xbox 360 Elite and the game so that's why he is there i guess. And also 11-60 in any line can buy the game for 1 SEK.
DrXym's Avatar
DrXym at 04/12/2008 03:46
@xioner so if you sit in line for 15 days you get a console and game worth at most 500 euros. Someone needs their head examined.
