Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

Well, isn't that a pleasant surprise? The first gameplay footage for Gears of War 2 has arrived a bit earlier than we originally expected it to, thanks to 1UP.

Without giving too much away, I will say that the video above reveals Gears of War 2 to be a beefed up version of the original game, which is not a bad thing at all. More enemies on-screen, larger firefights, improved visuals, and a new roster of chainsaw attacks ... it's looking like Epic Games has taken everything that made the first Gears enjoyable and expanded upon it.

Two more videos will be out shortly, so check back here before too long.

Holee shit, Favulus.

Take a chill pill and turn off the Capslock, k thx.

GOW2 looks great, but I don't have a 360 and probably won't for some time. Maybe for the PC?

Hey favulus1, nice job on the CAPtacular emphasis.

I dunno, whether I should tear your stupid fucking statements to shreds or just let you bask in your stupidity. Get some maturity and maybe you will realize that noone is "competing" here. Your fictional console war doesn't exist.

I'd just like to point out that Cliffy B is wearing a shirt that says, "Yes, it's really me."

...

Otherwise the footage looks really great.

At GOW2's release GOW1 will hav been out for 2 years. I think it is a good time to release their sequel. Don't be tellin them to slow down. Some of us hav had it since GOW1's release.

Looks good to me. I like how they tried to improve the whole chainsaw thing, giving the one being attacked a fighting chance to button mash their way out of it.

As with God of War, the other GoW, the sequel seems to take the good things and just stick with the formula and just put more of everything in there. Which is a good thing and I'm so getting this.

If it runs that good on my 360, it will brick it for sure. Cliffy needs more hair gel.

I wasn't crazy for GoWs multiplayer, but it had the best Co-op I've had the joy of playing on my 360...The new footage looks sweet, and I'll gladly pick it up and play through the campaign with friends again...The Multiplayer wasn't bad, I just kind of lost interest in online for a while...With stuff like ME, BioShock, even the new TR games I can't help but enjoy the single player stuff.

(I still have played only a handful of online GTA even though its great...

Even stuff like CoD4 and RSV2...I enjoy the offline more so than online at this point...anyways...Gears looks sweet...can't wait...November should be a good time...I may be done with GTAs single player by then.

I'm looking forward to it- Just as soon as I finish GoW1, Halo3, Bioshock, Assassin's Creed, Orange Box, and GTA4. I might be the slowest player in the world.

It looks nice, but like others, I'm hoping it has a more interesting story this time around.

A meat cube mode would be nice.

A few things: It looks great. It looks like a improved version of the first Gears which was great. If you you were expecting it to look leaps and bounds different, then that's your sorry mistake, not Epic's.

And what's this apparent disappointment at the character models not being "better?" They don't need to be any fucking better. For the style of the game, the models were perfect.

Looks like they just put in some Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and MGS3 mechanics. Not bad. I wonder if you can play dead like in MGS4/MGO?

Yeah, I'm not seeing this being worth $60/getting my 360 fixed.

All I see in this video is improved level design (expected), chainsaw battles (already announced), and human shields (or locust shield, whatever). The improved level design is a must, because that's where most of the fun comes from. But what about the tons of bugs and glitches that made the game mediocre to me. Or what about the host advantage that ruined online. Gears has an awesome theme and presentation, but the gameplay just didn't impress me too much. I'm more anticipating UT 3 then this.

The variations on the chainsaw kills and the enemy shields was enough to sell me. I was pleasantly surprised to see new weapons showcased.

Here's hoping the multiplayer isn't as nerfed as the first one was.

I'm mildly excited. I'm really excited for multiplayer. They were really disappointed with the first Gears' online component, and they said they'd fix it next time around. All the new advancements in console online should be here now. There's no excuse.

Save film, screenshots, party matchmaking, and a lot more gametypes. I want it all.

Looks solid.

I loved the first Gears and stayed with it for months.

Hopefully this one corrects the flaws I noticed only after those many months.

Maybe I just don't like this because I hate Epic Games so much, they keep rehasing their stuff over and over again. Apparently it seems to work well this way though, but after UT3 epic really screwed up for me (The game had LESS features, probably because of the bulky UT3 engine..). The opposite of progress.

im not sure about you guys, but im not gonna pay 60 euros/dollars/pounds (or whatever) for an extra chainsaw animation lol, even though this does the trick for most people. Fuck epic. Vale.

Looks pretty awesome. The pace seems a little faster than the first. I hope its running that smoothly because they've optimised the engine now, and not because its running on a dev system.

I've never played (or seen gameplay of) Gears of War, but regardless that looks like some fun. Wish it was available for the PS3, but might pick this up for the 360 and hope I can play it without killing my 360.
