For a good while it appeared that Beautiful Katamari would not be heading to the PlayStation 3 after developer Namco Bandai complained about difficulties with Sony's futuristic devil hardware of doom from the planet HardToDevelopFor. It would seem, however, that Namco has mysteriously worked out how to actually do it, since a trip to Namco Bandai's site will reveal that the game is confirmed for both Nintendo's Wii and the PlayStation 3 in addition to the already announced Xbox 360 release.
With Sony's fortunes showing signs of potential reversal, this is a respectable bonus for the much-maligned PS3. A release date is yet to be confirmed for either the Wii or PS3 versions, although 360 owners can roll garbage up into a ball to please a pedophile-lookalike on October 16th.
[Update: Seems that Namco Bandai had a brainfart. M'colleague Dale has just let me know that the site has now been edited and Beautiful Katamari is being shown as only available for Xbox 360. Oh well, the Sony obsessives will be sad now.]
[Cheers, Justin]

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
It'll still be better than playing it on the PSP. That blew.
I'm still getting it on the 360. No sense in losing achievements on a multiplatform title.
Also, with Pew's thing about Eternal Sonata, I'll believe Katamari's coming to the PS3 when I see it.
I have a hard time not believing that Eternal Sonata is coming to the PS3.
This isn't just some listing on Gamestop's website.
This is Namco Bandai's OFFICIAL listing. No one has ever mentioned the game being released on the PS3. The chance that a mistake like this to happen when the possibility wasn't even mentioned before would be pretty slim.
...and are Achievements really THAT big of a deal? What do you get from it?
Achievements are a big deal because they add a lot of fun to a game. Dead Rising is probably the best example. Sure, you can spend hours running through a zombie-filled mall doing all kinds of fun shit, but can you do this list of fun and challenging shit?
GTA games are a perfect place for achievements too. I know we've all hit some crazy jump, and spun like a million times, or finally mastered flying the Dodo.
Achievements give you are reason to do all the fun stuff you probably want to do anyways. And even after you finish a game's campaign or story, you've still got a list of achievements to unlock to keep you going.
STFUAJPG, who are you to tell someone what adds fun to a game for them? If someone likes achievments then they like them. It seems most people that don't like achievments (besides Rev, he's just deep like that) are playstation fanboys that don't own a 360 and as soon as sony brings out their trophy system I know they won't shut up about how they are somehow superior to achievments.
But I see that I am clearly uneducated in what is fun and what is not fun.
Well, it's something extra, isn't it? If one version has something the other does not, even if you're not all that interested, I'd say it's the better deal.
In other news, this seems to be all academic, given the update.
Naa Na Na Na Na Na Na Naaaaaa Katamari 360...
I can't Wait for this game, I LOVE KATAMARI! :D
I wasn't saying if you don't like achievments you don't understand fun, I was just pointing out that burkhart calling people idiots for enjoying achievments is stupid and rude. If he said "I personally don't enjoy achievments" and left it at that I have no problem.
When pulled off correctly achievments address a very basic human desire, the need for reward. For the most part in 360 games you do a little "work" and you get a "reward", I'm sure if I'd taken more than Psych 101 I'd be able to talk more elequently about it.
Personally sometimes it almost feels like playing a game on my PS3 is less productive than if I played it on my 360. I know that sounds insane and nonsensical but I've heard EGM's Dan Hsu say the same thing so I know I'm not crazy.
So in these days when there is little to no difference between the PS3 and 360 version of a game, achievments tip the needle toward the 360 just enough to make me want the 360 version more.
