That said the whole game isn't that bad, CoD usually has the AI kill everything in the first level as sort of a tutorial. The ship in Modern Warfare was just as bad.
Anyways, I think I'd find that pretty tough. I'd probably kneejerk reaction every now again and pump a bullet into a guy as he pops up in my face.
Someone quick, get this toolbag a console so he can whine some more about the days of yore in PC Land.
Good analogy, seriously. Many of my super master race PC brethren confuse "dumbed down for consoles" with "dumbed down for mainstream acceptance." Nine times out of ten the latter is responsible, not the former. Even if PCs were still the only place to find Western RPGs and FPS games they would still be streamlined and simplified at this point to try and reach a broader audience, that's just the nature of big budgets and mainstream exposure.
There are "consolized" things that annoy me, of course. Things like big glowing auras around weapons you can pick up to make it easier for those playing from TV distances or the tight and cramped FOV on a lot of recent games because of those same TV distances. Lack of quick save is likely rooted in console development, as is less hotkeys and fucking HUGE UI screens. Analog sticks being used for shooters has slowed the pace of FPS games down and also limited vertical combat, which is probably my biggest gripe with the modern console focus.
"Consolized" usually has to do with technical things, not gameplay, in other words. Gameplay getting simple is mainstreaming, pure and simple.
Now I've ranted, oh dear.

And what made gaming mainstream...? Consoles. That's what that dude in the video would say, at any rate. Not at all disagreeing with you, really. I think people that blame everything bad about gaming on consoles are jackasses just like you seem to think that. So we agree. Just saying.. I wouldn't have used your particular argument. It would feed that sort of troll.
Aside from that, is it really bad that your squad's AI actually kills people? I mean, who hasn't bitched about them being useless in other games?.
p.s. lolz at his nerd-rage at console gamers
There was 1 dude left alive when he blamed the console gaming. Which is the reason the event did not trigger... dipshit.
This guy thinks hes the man. It's kinda sad.
I don't hate a guy for wanting a platform that runs the games he wants to play without having to worry about the hardware/drivers, i don't hate a developer for choosing to design for a popular platform that you don't have to test for massive different factors of hardware.
Its when they release these multiplatform games that design is limited by the consoles, its like having an xbox360 and all the games you can pick are designed to run on a psp as well.
Things I blame consoles for:
Glowing auras around items
Minimizing keys used for controls
Autoaim
goofy graphical limitation
Things I blame mainstreaming for:
dumbed down gameplay
scripted sequences
Things I blame bad programmers for:
shitty scripting
Don't blame one thing for something thats someone elses fault.
or more importantly why is this annouced as completing a mission w/o firing when he needed to kill someone in order to finish it?
anyway, they give you the choice, and thats what games should be about. if you wanna take 15mins to finish a 5 mins mission because you dont want to kill enemies that should be fine.
Does Ubisoft know that Treyarch just lifted the AI code right out of Ghost Recon 2?
Now, CoD is not the type of FPS I like. Less is sometimes more. And I really like a clever AI more than 100 of dumb ones that are just running from point A to B or shooting from point C. It's pretty stupid that they didn't came up with something. Replay value tends to get to zero.
Do I blame consoles for dumbed down gameplay? Yes, but not in a typical FPS or Platform game. Sadly, new games are so extremely scripted that I sometimes don't even think I play the game. Last time I nerdraged about this was in Enslaved where every fucking jump was scripted.SERIOUSLY??
Thing is, developers are just getting lazy. You can't blame a console for everything. Remember the time when Nintendo and Sega were the kings? Games were hard as hell. Playing through a game was a BIIIG accomplishment.
You are with a team, which one would be more realistic:
a) Your team pretends not to be able to shoot the enemies for you to shoot them, acting like horrible soldiers.
b) Your team trying to finish the mission although you act like a pussy and not help the situation.
Now I now, your lack of contribution to the fight should have some consequences, some of which might result in the killing of your teammates, than we have problems,
a) As there should be a gameover if the teammate is key in future events: this would result in people bitching and moaning, they would blame the NPC for dying and causing a gameover. Some even would argue the game plot should change. Yeah right, every game should have gazillion pages of scripts to cater for your experimenting spirit.
b) Non-important teammates dying without gameover: People would moan and bitch because it didn't affect your game.
c) You dying: Now, you do die in later levels, this was just like a cinematic instruction level. (Actually I don't own the game, I am deducing this from other people's comments..
On the lighter note, on the tenth or the eleventh minute of the vid, hilarious stuff. He gives some tip where "keep sidestepping to win against ai's", only to be answered with many consecutive hits. Way to go smartass.
Stop being a fucking elitist and just enjoy the games/consoles that you do. Don't worry about what other people play and like.
For fucks sake, though, why are people complaining about AI that actually help you? Isn't this supposed to be a simulation of war? In war, your partners will kill fuckers if you don't, are we all expecting to have some AI shell that shoots blanks and never kills anything just so the player will be more involved?
