Be very afraid: Saw game announced photo

Back in June, we told you about Brash Entertainment's plans to take on the niche market of movie-based games, and how they had secured the necessary licensing needed to bring favorites such as Saw to the game screen.

IGN was lucky enough to attend the recent press event hosted by Brash, where they watched a short teaser trailer for Saw: The Game, that featured none other than the Jigsaw puppet himself, with a stern warning for those in attendance: game journalists are wasting their lives in industry.

Other than the somewhere in the vicinity of a October 2009 release date, further details about the game were scant at best, but we do know that it will stay true to the plotlines of the movies. While I'm not sure about the meaning behind Jigsaw's warning (are journalists going to be tormented in the game?), I am hedging all bets that the ESRB is going to be keeping close tabs on this one.

As we've all seen, games tend to draw closer scrutiny than their movie counterparts. Will Saw suffer the same fate as Manhunt, or will Brash tone it down enough to make everyone happy? Let's just hope the game doesn't end up neutered as a result.  Do you want to play a game?

Well they've got the movie elements down. Playing this game will be torture.

Hopefully we'll see the double-standard corrected (or at least addressed) when they find out this "ultraviolent and socially-destructive" video game is based on a PoS movie.

They've milked this franchise enough with it's repetitive movies. Now a game? Bah.

Personally, I love the movies. If the game garners decent reviews (at least a 7.5), I'll play it. Might even buy it.

Their first game was based on Alvin & the Chipmunks; talk about running the gamut.

I'm just hoping that this game can equalize the ratings between movies and games. Beyond that, I could care less.

I really can't think of one reason as to why this movie should be made into a game other than to milk this franchise even more. Having only seen the first 2 saw movies and listening to what my friends have said about the others I would conclude that if the game continues like the series has it'll be medicore at best. I did enjoy the first movie mainly because it felt different than some of the other horror movies I've seen before that came out. But as a game I just have a feeling that this will bring more negative attention to gaming if the game is as violent as I'm picturing it could be.

I'm hoping its a platformer where you play as the puppet, running and jumping around sets light in green and orange as you collect little hacksaws.

Bonus Danny Glover cart-racing level.

Now this I am torn on. I loves the Saw movies, but a game, unless its an old school point-and-click adventure game, just won't work.

I wonder how this game will be treated by the ESRB? Hopefully if they make this game with as much "gore" as the movies it won't recieve an AO rating just because it's a video game.

Oh, and sorry about the extra comment! I tried to click on the comment box, but I accidentally press the "add comment" buttton instead. Sorry!

maybe it will be a game where you play as Jigsaw, and setup the "games" in a sandbox style mode, followed by an abduction mission, and at the end of each section of this you get to watch your creations at work in a custom cinimatic based on your design, after each killing your time to build your trap becomes shorter/traps must be more ingenious and if a person ever escapes you lose.

Probly wouldnt get the M rating if its like how I discribed it, but one can hope...
